Nick Burnett has done a tremendous job over the last few seasons in helping grow and develop our small army of THC Umpires ! However, with more and more hockey being played at all ages and levels we need to grow our Umpiring pool to help spread the load. Also as we all know no umpires - no games !

As we know most players have an excellent command of the FIH Rules and in-depth knowledge of the Rules of the Game ! So here's your chance to test your knowledge and sign up on the pathway to become a Level 1 Umpire.

We've arranged a closed course so we can get priority for THC players, supporters, family and friends and offer the course at a convenient location. Sunday 18th March 2018 at THC - this is a mix of theory and practical and the course runs from 9.30am - 4.00pm.

The course is option to any club member, player, former player, supporters or friends who want to help support our umpiring needs. The course is open to all aged 14+ (With parental consent). If you agree to join the band of THC Umpires the club will meet the cost of the course.

As well as Nick as our Chief Umpire Developer, along with Malcolm Tucker and Andrew Foster (Fozzy) as Umpire Developers there's also a great set of online resources available from EH https://hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/officiating . Even if you don't want to do the course we recommend all players look at the Hockey Hub as there are some great video's and on line information to help improve every players awareness and understanding of key rules !

Our approach is to continue to grow the umpiring 'pool' and then our umpires are not asked to do as many games (unless they wish to) and we match umpires to the level that they feel comfortable doing. Each week we need to allocate 11 umpires or more on a Saturday including the badgers and beavers games and often 4 - 6 on a Sunday depending on the number of games and junior tournaments.

We need to submit final names to England Hockey shortly - and places are limited so sign up now - whether you're a budding FIH Umpire, or just fancy helping out with our junior games and tournaments from Under 10's through to our Masters teams !

So why not join our whistlers now ! You'll event get all the tools of the trade with a whistle, cards, rule book and scorecards and once you complete your assessment THC will present you with your first NWHUA shirt !
