We've a new programme for members - Strength & Conditioning begins 5 July 7 - 8pm join us to get in shape for the new season!

This season we're upgrading our pre-season fitness opportunities for all players by introducing a two pre-season blocks to get everyone up and ready for the new season sitting alongside the stick and ball pitch sessions (see full pre-season programme for all sessions attached).

Block 1: Strength and Conditions
Thursday's in July - (5th, 12th ,19th and 26th July 2018)

7.00pm - 8.00pm with Strength and Conditioning Instructor, Robbie Dagnell from the University of Chester.
Robbie has been working with our Performance Squads since early June and we are opening up the sessions in July to all club members (at no charge).

These sessions will give everyone the opportunity for a really good base to work from for pre-season, including learning more about why strength and conditioning is important for hockey players and doing the right things. Helping build strength for playing but also getting ourselves more aware of how to prepare for the season and avoid injuries.

These sessions are open to all teams / players - and everyone can adjust and work to their own level. Sessions will be held on the Astro so please meet at the gates, bring water and slap on the sun cream !

Block 2 - Club Fitness

£3 per session or £10 for all 5 weeks.
Minimum number of 10 per session to run

If you want to find out a little more about fitness and what hockey players need to focus on - and areas we often think are good for hcokey preparation that may not be as effective. There are some interesting articles on this website by a former South African International on fitness tips and pre-season preparation:

Pre-season Schedule stick and ball / pitch sessions

The Performance Squads have their first full pitch sessions starting on 30th June with Albert and Savs, as well as time with Robbie.

Club training (for all other players) was due to start on Tuesday 17th July at 7.00pm - but we've have to extend Women's Summer League by one week due to the England Game. Stick and Ball Training will shunt forward to start now on Tuesday 24th July - we may get some hockey on Wednesday 18th July (in parallel with Men's Summer League Finals night on the Blue Pitch.

Coaching is our biggest area of investment as a hockey section, paid for from monies raised through match fees and fund-raising so do try and get along to enjoy some pre-season preparation and benefit from what the hockey section has on offer to all members. New members welcome too !

Finally, a big thank you to Caroline Small, our Hockey Development Co-ordinator ,who has worked with all our coaches to set up the full pre-season programme and fitness sessions. The programme grows again this year and takes us another step forward in developing what we offer as a club for players at all levels.
