Great news from a frosty, snowy Leeds on Sunday as the Ladies 1s Indoor Squad win the North Qualifier

The women’s 1's made history on Sunday 10th December 2017 becoming the first Timperley Senior team to qualify for the National Indoor League. Following the great form of the Boys U18 team last season, the ladies won the North Regional Indoor Tournament qualifying for the Womens Jaffa Super6s Division 2 North on 6th-7th January in Wolverhampton.

The tournament schedule was on version 10 by the start of the first game, with various teams withdrawing due to poor travelling conditions in the snow, but Timperley were not put off by the cold. The first match was against Wakefield who arrived early to get some practice in. Timperley’s high intensity was too much for the young opposition with a 6-0 win for the blues getting them off to a cracking start. The next game was against the old enemy Fylde, with both teams neutralising each other’s attacks and forcing some great saves to draw 0-0.

Durham Uni were the next team to face the blue army, with Timperley taking the lead early in the game, however Durham came back strong. The final score was 3-2 with Timperley’s defensive press turning over possession high up the court. After a quick maths lesson, the ladies needed to win the final game by a goal difference of 8 or a minimum of 9 goals. Leeds Adel bravely fought to the last whistle with their makeshift keeper (and ex-Timperley player) saving many goals but Timperley notched up a proud 11-0 victory.

This is only the second season the ladies have entered the competition and were commended by the opposition and umpires on how well they played together as a team. It means some serious competition is back on the cards for the ladies in their two-month break. After all, it’s far too cold to play outdoor at this time of year… isn’t it??
