After a few year's gap our Mixed tournament returned in style on Sunday with 13 teams enjoying a fabulous days hockey!

Timperley B mixed team

On Sunday, Timperley hosted 13 teams from across the North West in the revived Mixed Summer 7s tournament. The action took place in 2 ability-based leagues in the blazing sunshine. Who said summer isn't here yet....

League 1 was a competitive affair which went down to the final game. Timperley A, Lymm and Alderley Edge all went into the final game with a chance of qualifying for the final, however Timperley's win wasn't enough to close the gap that Alderley and Lymm had created through the day. The Final was a fiesty occasion, with both teams keen to get their hands on the prize. They couldn't however find the winning goals with the game finishing at 2-2 and on to a penalty stroke competition. The ladies stepped forwards first from both teams, with some great saves from the keepers. However the girls were not deterred and finished some great strokes, before the winning shot was taken by Lymm to seal the deal.

League 2 was a slightly less competitive league (hmm, okay maybe not)... this time with Macclesfield, Blackburn & Clitheroe, and a family team from the Capel Crossleys, going for the crown. Maccesfield v Team Family ended in deadlock, meaning the Capel Crossleys needed to beat Blackburn, top of the league, to get into the final. And they did it with a 2-0 win in a closely fought match. The final was a repeat of this match, even though both teams weighed up going straight to a penalty competition, they decided to fight the heat one more time. There was only 1 goal in it, with the stale mate being broken by Ewan Crossley, probably scoring the most important goal of his career so far.

Thanks must go to all those who took a turn on the whistle, hooter and Ella on the cake stall for making and selling cakes! Bring on next year which promises to be both bigger and better. Thanks again to all the teams for making it such a great day.
