The World Cup has kicked off and it was good to see the new 65 inch telly at the Club beaming out Saturday's matches - sadly only a 1 - 1 draw for England v India. This is the biggest hockey event ever staged in England so here's our chance to support and promote hockey to a wider audience !

Just like the football World Cup there's nothing better than watching sport with your hockey mates so try make it down to the club to watch some of the games (if TV's aren't on the hockey please ask at the bar). Games are being shown on BT Sport (see EH media release below for more details) - for BT subscribers there's an App - or go to the BT Website to watch highlights https://sport.bt.com/hockey-01364070232829
Come down on Wednesday 25th July 8.00pm to see England play USA or for the final group B game on Sunday 29th July 7.00pm v Ireland.

The Ladies 1's have organised a THC Hockey World Cup Sweepstake - its costs £5 - ask at the bar and draw you self a team at training on Tuesday or Men's Summer League - as there are only 16 teams we have multiple sweeps so dont miss out - grab a team and help raise some funds for hockey at THC.

Heading to Lee Valley to watch ?

There are still some tickets available and there are a number of people heading down over the next two weeks from THC. Sarah Impey, Ladies 2's captain featured in an EH tweet on Saturday in the Fan Zone which is free and just outside the ticketed area. Adam Roberts, Wilf from the Badgers and Family were also spotted too !So don't miss a visit if you are heading to London. We'll be putting a post up on Facebook so people can share when they are going if they fancy spotting other THC members !

TICKETS - we've two tickets going to any THC members on Friday 27th July (evening games) - if you're interested in taking these tickets call Shelagh on 07810 854197. mark Andrew's also have some spare tickets if anyone if looking for some - see post on facebook.

This is a real one off opportunity to see the best teams in the world and if you cant make it to London come and watch at the club or at home on BT - this is a great opportunity for younger members to learn from the extensive TV coverage and analysis. So get watching on TV or on line, or look on You Tube for highlights.

England Hockey - Media Release - Re: Coverage

Exciting details have been announced around the global coverage of the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup, with England’s first game of the tournament being made available free on the BT Sport app.

A number of world-class innovations will be used by BT Sport in broadcasting the biggest women’s sporting event of 2018, showcasing its technological capabilities.

Former Great Britain and England stars Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh, Sam Quek and Crista Cullen will also provide in-depth analysis

Viewers tuning in to this year’s action will witness the best-ever picture and sound for such an event. The use of Ultra-High Definition (UHD) will provide a more natural, true-to-life visual experience that is closer to how people see action in real life.

Dolby Atmos® sound will also be used for the first time at a hockey event to provide a truly immersive experience. This technology transports viewers into the action with moving audio that flows all around with breath taking realism.

Sound moves in a three-dimensional space, which will make fans feel like they are inside the stadium, on the hockey pitch.

Along with Hawk-Eye’s SMART Replay system and new hockey specific ball tracking technology, a total of 26 cameras will cover all the action from London, providing more angles to choose from than ever before.

In terms of content, BT Sport will produce one single programme each day. This will give viewers the opportunity to watch all of the action from the very first match of the day until the very last match.

This provides fans with non-stop hockey coverage, with all of the match action supplemented by in-depth analysis from the BT Sport team led by Chris Hollins and Sam Quek with Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh, Crista Cullen, Mel Clewlow and Simon Mason plus features on athletes, coaches and the sport in general.

Over 80 hours of live content from the World Cup will be broadcast to over 150 countries via FIH’s global broadcast partners. In addition to this, the FIH YouTube channel will provide coverage to fans in territories where no broadcast partnerships are in place.

This will be the biggest worldwide TV distribution of a FIH World Cup ever. For the first time in the event’s history, fans from every single participating nation will be able to tune in to the action, with many more territories also picking up the coverage from London.
