Summer League, tournaments, back to hockey, hockey camp, fitness & a unique 140th Dinner with a difference!

Summer hockey is now in full swing at THC and we will be starting fitness next week on Thursday 8th June, see below for details, as we continue to offer members year round opportunities to be involved with a range of activities at Timperley.

On pretty unique event at the Club this summer is the Faulty Towers Dining Experience on Saturday 24th June - this is the opportunity to enjoy a great evening out, some live theatre, a feast from Kerri too all at the club and a celebration of 140 years of sport at Timperley.

Members need to move fast as tickets for the Saturday evening will go on general sale from Wednesday 31st May - so don't miss the opportunity book tickets or a table. Phone the club or email to book your tickets and don's miss out. There's also a Sunday lunchtime event too that is already on general public sale and open to members too.

For more details see the main news item - including link to find out more about the Faulty Towers events.

Summer Hockey

As well as providing a great range of social hockey away from the stresses of league or cup runs summer hockey is also a key fund-raiser for hockey. Due to the reduced number of Car Boot Sales on this summer due to the drainage project to improve the outfields this year's summer leagues and tournaments are helping to make up for a loss of fund-raising income. Weather permitting Car Boots will be back later in the summer so dates will be published soon - along with the approach for 2017 with all sections staffing the events jointly.

So some thank you's to everyone involved in the Summer Hockey programme for putting on some great hockey as well as raising vital funds, and especially our lead organisers:

Summer League organisers: Pat Jones (Men's) and Jackie Lord (Women's)
We've 16 teams in the women's league and 7 in the men's so its great to have over 200 players enjoying summer 7's at the club each week. If you're not playing pop down to see the Men's games on a Tuesday and Women on a Wednesday and if you want to play (or umpire) have a chat with the Timperley teams playing each evening.

Ladies Vets 7's Tournament on 10th June: Jo Nicholson
Jo's run this tournament for many years now and its always a highlight to see the themed costumes and team kits created - especially by the Timperley Vets. This years theme is TV and Film

Mixed 7's Tournament on Sunday 9th July: Sarah Capel
Thanks to Sarah (and Dan) for reintroducing a Mixed tournament to our events programme - help spread the word and get any teams you know who may be interested to enter, or enter a team yourselves !

As well as Summer League - we've starting a new block of Back to Hockey sessions - run this year on a Tuesday 8.00pm - 9.00pm and coached by Albert. Do encourage anyone you know to come along and give hockey a go. We can loan sticks and people don't need to feel that they have to sign up to play on a regular basis. http://www.timperleyhockeyclub.com/news/back-to-hockey-is-back-starting-tuesday-23rd-may-2-1801237.html

We're also running another Hockey Camp this week (30th May - 1st June) - numbers are really growing well for the camps and we will be finalising dates for the Summer Holiday Camps in the next week or so.

Pre Season

The Timperley Sports Club Executive will be hopefully agreeing pitch allocation slots at its meeting later this week for hockey, lacrosse and junior football and once this is complete we will be publishing our full pre-season programme. For the performance squads Men's 1 and Women's 1's by invitation) this will start at the beginning of July and Club pres season will start in mid July after Summer League ends. Full details should follow next week.

To kick us off (open to all members) pre season Fitness led by Rick Poole will start on Thursday 8th June at 7.30pm and run until Thursday 27th July. Rick will again set a programme that can be undertaken by a range of abilities / fitness levels and will develop a plan to include building up general fitness and strength and conditioning. For this block we will be working on the grass not the astro. £3 a session.

Coaching team

As many members may be aware we have been recruiting for a number of coaching roles and working with Albert who is taking on a broader responsibilities working across all the coaching team (in addition to Men's 1 coach) we should be in a position to announce the coaching team for the new season shortly.

So there's a lot going on to get everything ready for the new season and we've a Hockey Committee meeting on 6th June to get the ball rolling on a number of other key areas of planning. Club Captains - Helen Cue and Kieran Jeffrey - will then be able to start progressing confirming the approach to running the respective men's and ladies teams and captains. We're also working with Jo Nicholson as we look at the way we organise the range of activities required to organise and run out our Academy - which ended with season with 225+ players. Jo has stood down as many people are aware and we appreciate her input and support in planning a smooth transition.

So keep up to date over the next few weeks as we will be sharing more information for the new season and announcing some more activity over the summer including coaching masterclasses.
