The season rolls on and we've another bumper weekend ahead
Saturday - we have 7 home games and 2 home senior lacrosse so the club will be really busy - please try and leave the car at home if you live near by to assist with parking, or give a little extra for parking at peak times. The one way system should be operating so please exit via Wood Lane at peak times and help avoid turning around near the clubhouse and lets keep traffic on the drive flowing !
We've also got both 1st Teams at home v Durham University. The Ladies 1's kick off the second half of their IWHL season and hope to be straight back into winning ways following two good wins in their mid season break friendlies last week against Liverpool Sefton and Cannock.
The Men's 1 need to get back to winning ways and keep pace with the pack of four clubs vying for the North Premier promotion spot (Brooklands 2's current leaders can not be promoted). We also welcome Kwasi's parents to the Club this weekend who will be down to watch their first hockey on UK turf - so lets hope they have plenty of warm clothing!
Please come along and support the both teams - we need that 12th Player on the side lines as Durham will have their own supporters along too ! Anyone is welcome to come down to watch any of our games - so do encourage friends and family to come down and watch some hockey. Thanks go to this weeks anonymous Match Day Sponsor who is a loyal local supporter on the sidelines most Saturday's - he's a great friend of players and umpires and we hope we can serve up two great games to make his day !
Sunday - is another bumper EH Day - plus we've four teams of Under 11 year olds lined up to play in the Greater Manchester Junior Hockey League but we are struggling with enough coaches or umpires (you don't have to be a level 1 to umpire this 7 a side tournament). We have so many young players we really don't want to disappoint them by having to withdraw sides if we can't get enough support to coach and umpire. Please help if you can - the tournament is at the Armitage Centre, Manchester University 2pm - 4.30pm on Sunday. Please contact Sarah Manson, Nisha Sathi, Shelagh Entwisle or email@example.com if you are able to help out for some or all of the afternoon.
One of the reasons we are stretched is than many of our volunteer coaches and umpires are involved in other EH games this Sunday - again come and watch and support the teams if you can:
- Boys Under 18 v Brooklands 12.15pm at home
- Ladies Over 35 v Bowdon 2.00pm at home
- Under 14 Boys v Brooklands away
- Under 14 Girls v Oxton away
- Under 16 Girls - cancelled as we couldn't get a team
- Under 18 Girls - walk over Lancaster couldn't raise a team
More whistling opportunities !
Our whistles had the opportunity to meet up with over 60 umpires from 15 North West clubs on Monday for a Umpiring Forum with David Elworthy from England Hockey and NWHUA and NWHL hosted at the club. It was great to hear the passionate and in depth discussions on the finer points of the game and match day management and how we are all only human - players and umpires ! Whislt many people have lots to say about umpiring its also good to see those that give up their time to make all games possible engaged and wanted to learn more.
We're in the process of finalising a Level 1 Umpiring course at the club - provisionally set for Sunday 18th March. If you're interested , and there's lots of support on hand to help and guide you pre and post the course, please let Nick Burnett, Kieran Jeffrey, Helen Cue, Nisha Sathi or your captain know as we need to provide names to England Hockey and block book the places. There is no charge for anyone involved with Timperley (including parents) taking the course as long as they are willing to join our band of whistlers and umpire when the can. An ideal qualification for UCAS applicants along with the opportunity to volunteer so ideal for anyone aged 14+
