Last weekend was back to back hockey with 21 teams hitting the turf - check out this week's news & come to Brooky this Sunday to support the Ladies 1

Hockey hockey hockey ....

Last weekend was out busiest of the season so far with 21 teams playing - a huge thanks to everyone involved in making this much hockey happen - to our coaches, captains, umpires, managers, players and parents and everyone who came along to support the teams !

This week's photo of the week is from the Men's 1's match v Chester by the hugely talented (behind a lens !) Dan Vernon and captures the moment the Blues went 2-1 up with a few minutes to go and seal victory, retain their unbeaten run and second place in the North Premier Division. Dan's loaded a fantastic set of photo's on our facebook group @timperleyhockey capturing the real essence of a match day. Big thanks to Dan and we hope he'll be back to capture more match day action soon ! This week its another early start for the Men's 1 with the trip up the A1 to Durham for a 12noon start !

The Men's 2's also kept up their unbeaten record too and are also in second place in NWHL Division 2. The Ladies 2's took three points off Didsbury Northern in a 1-0 win. After scoring their fastest goal of the second in less than two minutes at Leicester, the Ladies 1 battled hard for 70 minutes but lost out to Leicester who showed their previous IWHL Premier Division pedigree snatching an 65th minute goals to win 3-1.

It's Derby Day for the Ladies 1 this Sunday (21st October) away at Brooklands with a 13:00 push back - do come along, support the girls and enjoy the opportunity to get a smash and grab three points off Brooky !

We had three teams playing in the GMJHL on Sunday with two Under 11 teams and one boys Under 11's - playing 17 matches and only losing one - a great start to the season. The Girls A team top the Girls table, with the Girls B mid table and the Boys in second place.

Our EH season also got underway with the U14 Girls heading to Brooklands for an early start and after being all square at half time went down 4-1. The Boys U16 were away at Chester in another hotly contested match 0-0 at half time and then the final breakthrough came with the Blues taking the lead with 10 minutes go to only to concede twice as Chester made a final surge to win 2-1.

It was a case of rolling back the years back at the club on Sunday as the newly formed Men's O40's took on the seasoned and wily old O50's as part of both teams prepare for their EH Cup games. Old dogs and old tricks nicked a final goal (although some dispute about the time on the clock) to make it a ten goal thriller and all square at 5 - 5.

Socials .....

Next Saturday's (27th October) Live Band night at the Club with Pat Marsden's band the Scoobies gives us the opportunity to piggy back on the evening as our next informal social - its rock up on the night and free entry, 7pm - 11pm - all welcome

Save the Date for the TSC Xmas Extravaganza on Saturday 15th December from mid afternoon, they'll be activities for the kids, including a film, giant tombola, 200 Club Draw with a £250 on the night prise and festive food and drink !

We're also delighted to announce that one of the THC legendary social events is due to return in January 2019 - when 'Stars in their Eyes' will be back ! More details on the date will follow next week and how to get your name down to preform (limited places!)

....and finally due to a late Easter, EH finals and other hockey dates the Annual Hockey Dinner is planned for Saturday 18th May 2019. Let us know or your captain know ideas for this year's theme following the success of the 007 theme this year.

Other updates this week.....

Regrettably we have had to cancel next weeks Hockey Camp as number we're too low to make it viable to run - with so many families away for half term. The next camp will be in February Half Term.

Take a look at our latest Academy Newsletter (see link) and catch up on the academy round up of the 2018-19 season, player of the month and plans for Halloween on 27th October.

Caroline Small organised another very successful Quick Sticks Tournament this week for local primary schools and helped introduce even more young players to hockey. Caroline and Helen Judd are finalising details of a new Young Leaders Programme and letters will be send out to Academy players in year 9+ shortly.

Umpires - we are going to look at how best we encourage, support and engage with our unassessed level 1 umpires who we supported to attend the EH course. We really want to try and get our unassessed umpires and those not comfortable to umpire senior hockey down on a rota to umpire the Beavers, Blue Badgers and Badgers games and the GMJHL tournaments. Currently many of the Level 1 Umpires are doubling up, playing and umpiring or umpiring two or more games on a Saturday.

With the EH Championship Games kicking in that need Level 1 (assessed) umpires for all games (including U14/16/18) we need to share the load on Saturdays and as a minimum get the Academy Saturday Games covered by the Unassessed umpires. So please let Will Reynolds know when you can help out - if we don't get volunteers we will have to do a rota and the more people who volunteer the less often that you'll have to umpire.

Finally, this Saturday would have been Kwasi's 22nd Birthday so it's an opportunity to take a moment to remember his smiling face and what he brought to so many during his short time with us at THC. The Men's 1's shirts have a very special piece of Kwasi with them with the #KE25 embroidered on the collar and we are sourcing a picture for the clubhouse to remember Kwasi. So let's do it for Kwasi this weekend, play with confidence and belief, and do your very best on and off the pitch, and bring home the points.
