Snow + Frost = No Hockey !

The cold snap over the last week has certainly taken its toll on hockey across the Country with no hockey for any teams on Saturday (9th) so we're into rescheduling of games over coming weeks. Find out what else if planned, whats on and what's not over the holiday period!

The North Hockey Leagues lost so many games that they have announced that all games postponed from 9th December will now be played on Saturday 24th March, extending the season by a week for he Men's 1's and Ladies 2's. All other games are being re-arranged hopefully by 7th January. See up and coming hockey below.

We'd like to thank Groundsman Andy Horsfield for working hard to get the salt down on the pitches last Friday, and to Dave Halkyard, KWasi, Mark Maddocks and Billy Beaumont for clearing the light cove of snow off the pitches on Friday. Dave was back in action on Saturday morning when more snow had fallen. Having cleared an area it became clear that even though the salt had worked on the very top surface that the frost had frozen the pitches deep down so alas it was no hockey again !

Sadly we had to cancel outdoor training on Tuesday, the last coaching session before 2nd January. We were disappointed with the overall poor turnout for the Inside tactical / whiteboard sessions . Moving forward we will please still come down on a Tuesday as if pitches are unfit we will replace with an inside session.

Indoor Hockey

Whilst a big and popular form of hockey elsewhere in the World - indoor is still limited to a small window each year in the UK. So this year it we were delighted to enter three indoor Timperley teams in the Regional EH Tournaments. We were also able to invest in indoor sticks, balls and more preparation time this season due to a generous donation from John Jordan former THC hockey members. We thank John for his support and its great to hear former members recollections about what made hockey at Timperley special to them and why they support us today.

Congratulations to the Ladies 1s who came out overall winners of the North Regional Qualifier Group to gain a place in the the EH Division 2 (North) - the girls will be off to Wolverhampton on 6th / 7th January 2018 aiming to gain a place in Division 2. Find out more about how the girls got on in Ladies 1s Indoor Match Report

Last week we updated on the Girls Under 18 and on last Sunday the Boys Under 18's went to Bradford for North Regional and finished third out of seven clubs and narrowly missed out to Doncaster for a place in the National Finals along with Bowdon who won the North. Experience gained in the last 12 months shone through but even after good wins verses: York (2-0), Sheffield Bankers (8-0), Thirsk (6-1), and two draws Bradford (1-1) and Doncaster (2-2) and a loss to eventual Group winners Bowdon (1-3). Thanks to all the parents who supported the boys and to Albert. So no Club's National Finals for Timperley but we congratulate Albert and the Altrincham Grammar School for Boys Under 16 and 18 teams who have made it to the Schools National Finals. Well done to: Ben Nicholson; Ben Entwisle; Harry Whittaker and Ollie Evans.

If you want to take in some top class Indoor hockey have a look at the EH Jaffa Super6s Finals Day on Sunday 28th January 2018 at the Cooper Box, Olympic Park, London.

SilverFX Xmas Delivery

Training

Weather permitting and based on interest the pitches are available on Tuesday (19th December) for players to meet us and play a bit of social hockey for those playing in senior teams (self organised) 7.30pm - 9.00pm and then into the bar for a quick drink !

Keep watching the weather and hopefully we'll get some hockey in pre-Xmas.

Next week we'll have an update of the season so far.
