Summer Hockey

Summer Hockey grows in popularity as its a great way to keep fit, dust down the hockey skills and catch up with hockey mates. Thanks to Jackie Lord and Dave Halkyard and their band of weekly helpers Summer League has got of to a great start with 18 women's teams and 12 men's teams.

Come down even if you're not playing to meet up with folks, grab a drink and help on the table or with the whistling for the THC teams. Ideal opportunity for un-assessed umpires to get some practice in and coaching from our umpire developers. Contact Nick Burnett or Will Reynolds if you can help even for an hour or so a night. Big thanks to Nigel and Nick and everyone whose umpired and helped out on the table so far. Week 3 of 10 starts this week !

If you want to play in one of the THC teams you need to contact Kieran Jeffrey (men's) and respond to the Pitchero availability for the women or contact Jo Robinson.

We've also Summer Tournaments coming up - on the weekend of on 8th June (ladies vets) and 6th July (Men's Lower Divisions Tournament / 7th July (Mixed 7's). Summer tournaments and summer league are major fund-raisers so do think about giving up a few hours if you can help on the day or umpiring. Please help spread the owrd to other teams / clubs too !

Coaching plans for 2019 - 20

Nigel has decided to step down from coaching the Ladies 1s for next season due to work, family and travel commitments and we would like to thank him for his tremendous contribution and support last season. Nigel will still be around and umpiring for THC when he can and as ever a friend of the club and back and injuries permitting he'll be playing for the Over 50's and any other team that may have him when around !

We've reviewed the coaching requirements going forward and the opportunities we have with both 1st teams being in the National League, and normally playing on different days. Albert will extend his role as Head Coach to be responsible for both the Men's and Women's 1st Teams and Mark Talbot will step up to be the Ladies 1's Coach. We are implementing a more team based coaching and management structure so we can continue to work across the performance teams and draws on the range of skills and experience we have. Ed Stropek (Men's 2/3 Coach) and Mark Worsley (Club Coach) will continue in their roles and Neil Stanford (Stanny) will also be supporting Ladies 1 coaching.

We have advertised for a new Club Coach / Ladies 2's Coach to replace Mark T and we are also finalising our specialist GK coaching plans too. We are also looking to bring in ideally senior players with coaching experience or aiming to develop as a coach to support club training on a Tuesday too.

Plans for Pre-season training and in-season training will be shared over the next few weeks, along with general club fitness sessions.

Have your say .....

Last chance to have your say in our 2018-19 THC Survey ! We've had a great response to the survey with 101 replies so far. It will be open for another week before we close and complete the review of the results to feed into 2019-20 planning.

It would be great to hear from some younger players where we have fewest responses - so if you're aged 14 - 29 get clicking on the link below and let us know your views !.....and of course anyone else who would like to reply !

Umpiring ....not whistlers not hockey !

Yes we know you've heard it all before and its the fastest way to switch most players off but we really do need to remind everyone who enjoys a game of hockey No Umpires = No Hockey ! You know the pack drill, we support anyone willing to give it a go - we pay the course fee and have three umpire developers on hand to support - plus we only allocate to the level of games you are comfortable with !

There's a course coming up at Brooklands on 7th July (anyone aged 14+) so please let Shelagh, Kieran, Jo Rob, Nick Burnett or Will Reynolds know if interested so we can get you booked in. There are few courses in this area so its an opportunity not to miss !

2019-20 moving forward !

Following the 2019 AGM we have elected our core hockey committee for the 2019-20 season - there are some vacancies on the committee and in a number of non committee volunteer roles. We'll be updating with more details of the roles available later this week - here's the roles elected to the core committee so far:
