The league hockey season is finally drawing to a close this weekend with one final game for the Ladies 3's on Tuesday evening - after they had to abandon last weekend's home game due to heavy snow ! We'll be doing a full round up of the scores on the doors for the league season next week when all the final places and results are in.

Hockey is certainly no longer a sport confined to the 'winter' months of September to March - we're a year round sport and the nice thing about the end of the league season is we simply move into a different more of more social hockey , tournaments and summer league.

Five teams will still be playing competitive hockey in the EH competitions over the next few weeks as well with the Men's Over 50's (EH Final) Under 10 boys and girls, and under 12 boys all at North Finals and the Mixed XI still in the EH Cup and playing the next round this Sunday.

Here's what's coming up:

25th March - Men's Vets Tournament / No Academy Training
25th March - Mixed XI v Huddersfield Dragons (away) EH Cup
27th March - Ladies 3's v Wilmslow - rearranged league game
30th March - U16 Girls v Dutch touring
3rd - 5th April - Hockey Camps at THC
8th April - Manchester Marathon - be aware road closures ! (Next round of EH Mixed Cup)
15th April - North U10 /12 Finals at Leeds University
20th April - 2018 Hockey Dinner - SOLD OUT
21st April -Men's Lower League Tournament at Timperley
28th April - Men's O50's National Final 4.30pm at University of Birmingham
13th May - End of season - Academy Presentations, Senior internal club mixed 7's and AGM
15th May - Ladies Summer League starts - waiting list in operation - bumper response !
16th May - Men's Summer League starts

We are also trying to find a date for the Dave Cameron testimonial game that has had to be re-scheduled due to rearranged league games.
16th May - Men's Summer League starts

We're running another survey to help us hear more views and ideas from hockey folk at THC. Please take a little time out to complete this year's survey and share your ideas and views to help us to continue to improve what we do at THC. The survey can be completed by players, parents, young players or anyone involved with hockey at THC.

We recognise that there is some confusion at times about the 'club' and how it all works and we will be doing some communications over the next few months to help everyone understand more about us as a club and how we work. Hockey is a section of Timperley Sports Club.

We, as individuals, are members of Timperley Sports Club and its TSC that run the clubhouse, bar, pitches and facilities and each of the four sections run their own sports. This survey is aimed primarily hearing your views on the hockey side of things - so that the hockey committee can take forward the ideas or issues raised. They'll be more updates on TSC and our development plans over the coming months too.

People helping our, and making stuff happen is the life blood of the THC and TSC - we're not run by Trafford (a popular misconception), or a private for profit company. Put simply we're own and run by members. So what we can deliver as a club and a hockey section is all down to us !

There are lots of ways to help and get involved and make good things happen at Timperley - so please do think hard if you can help by getting involved. There are lots of ways to make stuff happen from supporting one off events, to coaching, umpiring, team manager, doing the match day posters, comms, running tournaments or the summer league, a committee role, captain or vice captain, umpire co-ordinator or one of our support roles.

So, do have your say and let us know what you think about Timperley Hockey and also have a think and soul search on how you could help - please don't just assume people will pick things up and make everything happen. Follow our guiding principles of #OneClub and lets spread the load to deliver #GreatMatchDays and a #GreatHockeyClub.

We saw the spirit of the Club at its best over the last week and the response we had to #PaintAltrinchamPink and will be doing a news item when we get details of the final sum raised. Thanks to everyone who baked last weekend and the amazing sales job from Janet Wood and Angela George who raised over £200 on the cake stall.

Finally, this week we mark the passing of Kenny Palin - a huge supporter of Timperley Cricket Club and a regular visitor to the Club. Kenny was a real character who was well known locally and a stalwart of Altrincham FC along with his well known Zigger Zagger chant ! Many of the hockey section knew Kenny and he'll be sadly missed by all. Summer won't quite be the same without the shout from the decking of 'are you alright love' followed by a long in-depth conversation with Kenny about Alty FC, the latest pitch side views of the TCC team and my attempts to explain the nuances of hockey to him ! RIP Kenny from all at THC
