Catch up with this weeks news and updates including how we raised £490, plan to paint the club pink and who'll be whistler at THC soon !

Weather watch !

With the country gripped in throws of the Beast from the East and Storm Emma our national passion for adverse weather has been in overdrive this week ! We've certainly escaped lightly compared to most in the Timperley Weather Bubble! With crystal balls, snow shovels and the Met Office website all at the ready we return to a groundhog day scenario of 'will we' 'wont we ' play hockey this weekend.

Initial pitch inspections will take place on Friday 2nd March to assess how frozen the pitch surfaces are and how much snow is on the pitches. We will be updating home captains
on Friday and updates will be provided in all the usual places by Saturday morning. If you are playing away please do not set off without checking directly with your captain - please do not rely on second hand messages !

Depending on the state of the pitches and overnight weather on Friday if we believe that there will be a reasonable chance of them being playable we may need to call on a THC Task Force to get to the club to help clear any snow early doors (by 9am) . Watch out for updates and please help if you can even if only for a short period.

Assuming that the majority of games this weekend may fall foul to the weather players need to update captains of their availability asap so rearranged games can be organised. NWHL games has announced a slip date of 24th March - unless teams agree to play before. No update from CWHL at this time. The North and IWHL have updated on slip dates. Again go via captains to confirm rearranged dates don't rely on hear say !

Back on the pitch the Ladies 1's clocked up a key away win at Ben Rhydding making it back to back wins and maintaining 7th place in the league. The Men's 2s also got the wheels back on the wagon as they beat Brooklands to get back on track to close out the season, win their remaining games be crowned Division 3 champions and promotion. Having played some great hockey the curse of the cross and posts continued to hit the Men's 1 going down 4-3 to Oxton. At the other end of the tables there were good wins for the Ladies and Men's 5s to help keep them just above the relegation places and with one final push both teams should be safe this season.

#GrowingOurOwn

This is our programme to help support and grow our volunteer base so that we can continue to support all the hockey we currently offer and do more in the future to meet growing demand.

Highlights from this week include receiving our first quarterly donation from having been selected as a Co-op local cause. £490 has been raised to date and will be used to go towards the cost of training and developing our volunteers. We hit the ground running this week with a successful Safeguarding course on Monday evening and we now have 11 budding umpires signed up for the level 1 course later in March - this alone will cost £500+ - so its vital we get more people signed up and choosing us as their Co-op local cause to help fund this vital part of any volunteer based club.

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up and chosen THC as their Co-op local cause - and for swioing there membership card when shopping at the Co-op. There's still time to sign up and start raising funds for THC now - and for all the 1%'s we get remember you get 5% cash back too !

Next crop of whistlers !

We've 11 members who've risen to the umpiring challenge and will be doing the EH level 1 course in March. A big thank you to Helen Cue, Caroline Small, Sarah Impey, Sinead Higgin, Claire McDermott, Olivia Ashworth, Sarah Manson, Ben Entwisle, Paul Keeler, Zachery Sebastian and Craig Burgess who are all signed up. Once they've done the course they will be starting to umpire games (academy and seniors) to put the course into practice and gain experience with the support of our umpire developers. So please show them your thanks and support and make their first steps into the whistlers world as enjoyable as possible. Remember if you aren't prepared to pick a whistle up keep if shut and your FIH level umpiring experience and knowledge to yourself !

Good luck to everyone starting the whistlers journey and thank you on behalf of all players of all ages for committing to give umpiring a go so that others can enjoy playing hockey - remember #NoUmpireNoGame !

Dave's funeral will be held at 2pm on Thursday 8th March at Altrincham Crematorium. Family flowers only and donations to the British Heart Foundation care of Kenneth Dewey and Son's Funeral Directors. Our thoughts remain with Dave's family at this difficult time.

The game is provisionally planned for Saturday 24th March subject to any changes to the league fixtures. If this is the case the game will be re-scheduled.
