Another milestone was reached in the club's long 133 history yesterday as we celebrated long into the night the promotion of the Men's 1st team to the England Hockey League (North Conference) joining the Women in the national tier of English hockey. Realising this long held ambition our hats go off to all involved on and off the pitch to making this the year we played fast, attractive and top notch hockey to clinch the final promotion spot after a 2 - 0 win away at local rivals Didsbury Northern.
A huge congratulations too to the Men's 2's who held steady as they took on Fylde at Stockport Road in the game to decide the title for NWHL Division 2 - going behind , after a quick steadying of the nerves the lads rolled home to win 4-2 and take the league title. Well done to all involved again on and off the pitch.
The support from across the club was fantastic and it was great to see former players, supporters and family members all done rooting for the teams and celebrating way into the night at the club - a real special #oneclub #hockeyfamily day !
The Men's two promotions help us achieve three of our key objectives for the season and we are now very proud to have accomplished the following for next season:
- Men's and Ladies 1st teams in the England Hockey League (North Conference)
- Men's and Ladies 2nd teams in the North Hockey League (Ladies in West Pennine Premier and Men's in West Pennine Div 2)
- reduced the gaps between our Mens and Ladies 1's and 2's
- grown senior playing numbers to run four other Men's and three other Ladies teams in the NWHL and CWHL
- transitioned a number of academy players to play senior hockey with five 18 year olds who've come through the academy playing for the respective first teams yesterday and many many more playing in all other teams
So onwards and upwards for next season - great position to be on the pitch and with the first phases of planning for project 18 shaping up well the club will also be continuing to enhance and improve our off pitch facilities.
So what else do we need ?!
Simples ! We need folks to get involved in helping keep taking the club and hockey forward !
.....we've all sorts of roles and jobs that need to done from the match day posters to managing team and committee roles
.... we need to raise more funds through sponsorship, sale of pitchside banners to help fund the replacement of the light and pitch and club development as well as funding hockey development
..... promote the club and help recruit new players of all ages and abilities
....and right down to having an overseas player as a lodger, to match days putting goals out and away, paying your match fees and helping create a great #hockeyfamily atmosphere in the clubhouse and pitchside
We'll be issuing this seasons player and parent survey shortly, having a break and then getting ready for the Dinner, AGM and summer hockey and planning for next season !
Thanks to everyone for making our club a special place and thing to be part of - yes we have our faults and don't get everything right but as a group of volunteers who do what we do at all levels of the club we get a lot right and yesterdays celebrations summed up what it means to be part of Timperley HC.
