It is with great sadness that we have to convey the news of the loss of former THC player and club supporter Dave Cameron earlier this week.

All of us at Timperley Hockey Club were shocked and saddened to learn on Tuesday of the untimely death of clubhouse and sideline regular and once Men's 5th Team regular, Dave Cameron, who died at just 32 years of age. Our thoughts are with Dave's family and friends at this difficult time.

Dave was trained in our academy, leaving playing hockey for a time, before returning to play for our Men's 5s at a time when they had just been re-formed and were struggling to field 11 players each week. He was part of the revival of that team through the 2010 to 2012 seasons, helping to create a strong team bond which continues in the squad to this day.

Dave would never have said that he was one of the greatest hockey players of all time, but he was a dedicated team player, and was always keen to support the social aspects of the squad and to ensure they played the best hockey they could. His contribution not only helped to cement the 5th team in their league, but through this steadying, contributed to the strength and size of the club as a whole, where we now have 6 regular and competitive teams.

After sustaining repetitive injuries during 2012, Dave hung up his stick and retired to the sidelines. Since then, he has been a regular supporter at home games of all sides, at all levels, both men and women. Come rain or shine, you could find Dave beside the pitches, often with a pint in hand, engaging in quite in-depth discussions about tactics and players with the other spectators.

1st Team regular Will Tobin summed it up perfectly in his recent tweet: "One of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of knowing. Always supporting Timperley Hockey and keeping my mum and dad company on the sidelines, regardless of the weather conditions. RIP Dave."

Please take a look at our Facebook page to see many touching and fitting tributes to Dave from across the THC #HockeyFamily. Dave was a lover of all local sport and a regular supporter of Altrincham FC too.

Dave will be sadly missed by many at the club and, with the blessing of his family, we have decided to hold a testimonial match in his honour, to raise money for his charity of choice - the Christie Hospital. Details are currently being finalised, but we plan to hold a match on Saturday March 24th between a team of Dave's 5th team colleagues from the 2010-2012 seasons (plus guests) against a chosen Timperley XI.

If you are keen to take part, either in the match itself, or as a supporter, please contact Alex Morley who is organising the event: 07855 942133

We will update on funeral arrangements when we receive more details.
