It is with great sadness that we have to convey the news that our friend and colleague, Tim Lucas, has passed away after a long illness. We sent our condolenses to Tim's family and our thoughts are with Carol, and his son's Neil and Matt.

Tim, a member of over 40 years, has made an amazing contribution to the development of not just his first love cricket but the Club as whole both on and off the pitch.

Tim's long association with Timperley dates back to the late 1970's when he and Carol moved to the area and Tim joined Timperley Cricket Club, opening the bowling for the 2nd XI.

When his two sons, Neil and Matt started playing cricket, he ‘retired’ from playing himself to launch our junior cricket programme, encouraging youngsters to play, develop and move through into our senior teams. That ambition continues to sustain us today and has grown to almost 100 junior members this season.

His membership of the club extending to 40 years has been continuous, and he invested huge energy and passion every aspect of that affiliation. Variously, he has been Cricket Chair, Secretary, Team Captain, voluntary Groundsman, Umpire, a representative on Cheshire Cricket Board, Sports Development Chair and also Honorary Secretary of Timperley Sports Club for a number of years.

Although Cricket was undoubtedly Tim’s sport, he celebrated all of the sections within Timperley Sports Club, supporting each with objectivity and enthusiasm. If he were able, he would always be the first to offer his time in whatever endeavour or initiative was being planned.

Most recently and with others, Tim proposed and wrote the initial funding bid to Sport England that has resulted in the new cricket wicket and outfield drainage system. Whilst suffering failing health Tim came along to one of the TSC Project18 Workshops only in August, fully contributing and as ever always looking to inputting ideas to improve Timperley Sports Club.

Tim's funeral will be held at 13.00 on Wednesday 18th October 2017 at St James Church, Stenner Lane, Didsbury, M20 2RQ, followed by a short private family committal. The wake will be held fittingly at Timperley Sport Club from 2.30pm,with the opportunity for further reflextions and memories of Tim's life and contribution to the Club, TCC and our sporting community.

Given the range of roles undertaken and the longevity of Tim’s membership of our club, it is easy to understand how all of us, whatever sport we play or enjoy continue to benefit from his work. It’s also impossible for us to quantify and we can only offer our thanks for his outstanding contribution to our Club and pass on our deepest thoughts to Carol and the family.

TSC Executive Committee.
