After the highs of last weekend and the good pre-season we entered our first home game against rivals Bowdon with confidence. Our aim was to go out hard and cause them confusion. Sadly for us this didn’t happen. Not sure if it was the occasion that got to us or if it was just a bad day at the office.
Our short passing game wasn’t happening, we were pressed all over the pitch. We did have short moments of joy when you thought yes this is more like it and it resulted in several shots and penalty corners but no goals. We lost Becky H in the first half due to her knee playing up which did not help.
Our defensive unit stood strong with some great tackles from Claire and Catherine. Kate gave a Captain’s performance with breaking down their penalty corners and interceptions. An unlucky deflection led to Bowdon first goal and a harsh yellow card for Annie completed a frustrating first half.
The second half was much the same as the first half, with great chances not converted and some good saves from the Bowdon goalkeeper. Half way through the second half Bowdon were awarded a penalty corner which resulted in Bowdon scoring their second goal and a comeback seemed unlikely. Timperley just struggled to join the dots but not for the want of trying. With the great work ethic that we have and some brushing up at training I am sure that our first win is not far away.
