Timperley first home game of the season! #comeonyoublues

Today marked the first home match of the season against Chester. Spirits were high, and with a healthy first team squad things were set for it to be a strong performance. Chester being our bogey team for the past couple of seasons, we were ready from the off to make our mark on the league.

A good team talk by mike and an intense warm up, helped with the sun, we were raring to go. Timperley held a good press in front of Chester making it impossible to get out of their half of the pitch. With brilliant balls up the wing by field and herdy, allowing the strikers beaks, lexi and Ali to out run and out play the Chester defence.

A short corner was won early in the first half and with a fantastic pick by Kate and reverse shot on goal saw her name first on the score sheet. Not soon after that and Chester got their first short corner of the game, with great clearances by Forshaw but unfortunately a second and third short corner were in quick succession and Chester scored. Timperley certainly not letting the goal bring their determination down, we continued to press and force mistakes from the oppo. Some great movement in midfield by Molloy, Hilton and Beth continued to out pressure on their defence with brilliant moves up the pitch and balls in to the area.

Not long after another short corner to Timperley was awarded and as the Chester defence were clearing beaks reverse stick tackle enabled the ball to be won back and lexi to score. Chester not happy with the tackle, and most of us surprised as it was beaks, but our video replay shows it to be clean! Video uploaded to the website.

Half time whistle score standing 2-1, after a recap by mike of areas of strength and things to develop Timperley went out all guns blazing.

Not shortly after the half time whistle, Goalen fired one of her signature balls in to the d, which beaks deflected the touch for ali (first game with the 1 s) got her name on the scoring sheet. Well done to the newcomer on the team.

After being warned in the team talk about not going for Glory goals, the fourth scored by lexi was just that. Not one to be told what to do, lexi "teased the defender, went back, dunked it over the defenders stick and flicked it at the keeper" (Schofield 2013)

Great play up and down the pitch with the defence pushing the mids up and providing support to give the switch along the back. The midfields working tirelessly to cover ground all over the pitch and the strikers never letting the Chester defence rest and creating opportunities throughout the 25, demonstrating a clear desire to make their mark on the league this season.

Wins across the board for all the Timperley ladies teams #comeonyoublues
