This Saturday saw Timperley host Springfields. With both teams on 11 points before the game, it was a crucial mid table match-up that could propel the winning team into the higher reaches of the league. From the first whistle, Timperley took the game to the visitors, playing with pace and positivity after their mid-week compliment fest. Numerous early chances fell to the home side, with though balls from Hilton and GOALen penetrating the Springfields defence time after time. Early chances fell for Panteli and Mortimer but neither was quite able to put them away. Springfields’ chances were limited in the first half due to some good pressing from the forward and midfield lines, ably commanded by Robinson and GOALen. A rare period of pressure for Timperley’s defence was dealt with efficiently and led to a rapid burst from Mortimer on the counter attack; Timperley had the ball in their attacking D in a matter of seconds. GOALen’s disguised shot from the short corner that resulted deceived everyone and went between the ‘keeper’s legs to open the scoring. The second goal came from another short corner and another disguised shot from GOALen. The ‘keeper was equally baffled this time round and mid-way through the first half, Timperley were 2-0 up and GOALen was on a hat-trick. The unrelenting Timperley continued to dominate for the rest of the half and the third goal came from yet more guile and disguise with Salt dummying a through ball at the 25 to let it run through to Panteli at (or somewhere close to) the top of the circle. Panteli pretended to miscontrol the ball whilst actually diverting it around the Springfields ‘keeper and into the bottom of the goal.

Timperley went out in the second half hoping to build on their 3-0 advantage. They were faced with a more resolute Springfields side who were determined to get back into the game. Despite the balance of possession and pressure shifting towards the away team in the second half, Timperley allowed them few chances through industrious midfield work from Molloy and the Williamsons, a solid back four line and continual tracking back from the forwards. Goalkeeper Forshaw was called into action a few times, making good saves from short corners and one-on-ones, and was only beaten once by a knee-high shot from the Springfields forward. Despite the minor setback, Timperley didn’t look like conceding more than that goal and the visitors finally capitulated. A great team performance and 3 well earned points see Timperley continue to creep up the league.
