Setting off to Lancaster on a freezing Saturday morning we were already arguing whether it was actually skins weather – this debate always separates the hard core players from the softies! After a trek from the changing rooms to the pitch (we actually drove) it was time to knuckle down and get our head in the game.

With only a little pitch time before push back our warm up was intense and focused meaning at the starting whistle we were on the ball and in the game. The Timperley girls had the majority of possession and in defending from the front we were able to hold the ball in our attacking half. With great calling from the Forshaw in net the messages where passed through defense, midfield and to the forwards and our press lead to us winning possession.

With a swift run down the wing from Alice, a pass to Lucy allowed her to fire her bullet ball in to the D. It was neatly controlled by Salt for Leonnie to hit across goal and in to the back of the net. 1-0 to the girls in blue!!

At the half time whistle we re-grouped, knowing that our opposition would come out hard. In the second half we held our ground (and our tongues – just) against a very physical team. On a few occasions the Lancaster girls made some threatening breaks but with great tracking back from Beth and spot on defending at the back from Kate, Soph and Claire we kept their efforts at bay until a cheeky shot from their center forward brought them level.

Despite their equalizer our threats kept coming and although we didn’t capitalize on the few short corners we won, we eventually won a long corner, which put us ahead again. Beth played the ball back to Kate who carried out her trademark super slap into the D for the amazing Jay (that would be me) to finish the ball into the back of the net.

We managed to hold off the opposition for the rest of the game and played strategically until the final whistle. The final result; 2-1 to Timperley Ladies. Now to take hat win into next Saturday when we play top of the league Durham.

Well-done girls.
