Inter Beavers' Tournament
Girls beat the weather and the boys
Despite the near freezing, windy and wet conditions 27 Beavers, coach Helen plus Sarah and Ewan our umpires (and a hardy bunch of parents) took part in an inter-Beavers tournament.
Firstly, playing nine-a-side, the players were split into 3 teams, and played each other. Team 1 drew both their games 0 - 0, and therefore, if there was a win for either team in the final game they would win the tournament. In another tightly fought game another draw looked to be on the cards until Kate Lane fired in a shot to secure the win - and the tournament for Team 2. Congratulations to: Molly, Lilly, Lorna, Harry, Katy, Imogen, Reece, Kate L and Sahil.
To the delight of the parents(!!) and proving their hardiness the players then wanted to play a Girls v Boys 11-a-side game. It was another close game and looked to be heading for another draw. But with just 90 seconds to go, Kate Lane again received the ball in the D and fired in to give the Girls a 1 - 0 lead. The boys applied pressure, desperate for the equaliser, and won a short corner, but the girls' defence held on, and the battle of the sexes was won by the Girls team.
Thanks to Helen, Sarah and Ewan we couldn't have played without you, and well done to all that braved the elements to play or support.
