Find out which Hockey Rules will be changing for the new season - test your knowledge of the Rules and come to a player or umpire forum !

For all the hockey badgers (and umpires) out there the waiting is over - England Hockey has announced how 'Quarters' will be treated across the English game from the start of the new season, along with some other changes to the Rules including:

• Removal of Player with Goalkeeper Privileges (aka kicking back))
• Amendments to Attacking Free Hits within the 23m
• Defensive Free Hits awarded within the defensive circle
• Amendment to ruling around Attackers entering the circle early at a Penalty Corner

For all of our senior teams (except the men's and women's 1's) there will be NO CHANGE to the timing of matches - we will continue to play two halves of 35 minutes. In the National League and top tier EH competitions Quarters will be played but modified from the full FIH Rule as follows: four x 17.5 minute quarters (without the clock stopping for Penalty Corners) - so this will be something new you'll see at National League games at Timperley next season!

Full details are set out on the EH Website .

One major issue across the game is not just the lack of umpires but the behaviour and attitude of some player and spectators towards umpires usually about the Rules. So do your bit this summer and take the online Rules Test and see how much you know ! Sign up for free to the hockey hub and see how well you do ! If you've young players in your household encourage them to have a god over the summer too !https://hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/officiating

Player and Umpire Forums

To help players gain a better understanding of the Rules (old and new and old and newer players, managers and coaches !) we'll be running a forum in September to run through the Rules changes and offer the change to challenge our Umpire Developers with all your Rules Questions and help improve understanding across all our teams of all ages !

We'll also be running a forum for our band of whistling umpires too to get into the dirt of the new Rules (and old) and get ourselves organised ahead of the new season !

So take the Rules Challenge and see how you do and look out for the dates to the player and umpire forums coming soon.
