Timperley's first half performance too strong for Alderley

Timperley kicked off their 2021/22 season with an away trip to local rivals Alderley Edge. Timperley were unsure what to expect with the lack of league hockey over the last 12 months and a new league.

With no fewer than 3 debutants it was a much changed side that took the pitch looking to emulate the women’s 1st team who had just come away with the 3 points in the game before.

As the game started Timperley looked to assert themselves and controlled the ball nicely the midfield of Zack, Ed, Josh Hughes and Owen Walsham enjoying a lot of possession. Zack and Owen in particular causing the Alderley defence a number of headaches with their pace.
It wasn’t long before Timperley were on the board. Matt Hardern scoring with a trademark drag flick to give Timperley a well-deserved lead.

As the 10-minute mark hit the rotations started which saw the introduction of Josh Higgin who had an immediate impact which. Firstly, Higgin and Bangee teamed up, working a gap but before Higgin provided Zack with a simple tap in. Minutes later Higgin was the recipient of some good work where he was able to score is first 2nd XI goal with only his second touch. 3-0 up and things were looking good for Timperley.

Pat, Woodsy, Ross, Dave Saunders and Pricey had very little to do at the back as they remained organised with the only real chances coming from short corners that were comfortably dealt with.

As Timperley continued to pressure the front two of Bolton and McCarthy were making nuisances of themselves created lots of space for the midfielders to make use of. It was this space that gave Timperley their 4th as more great work from Higgin saw the ball find Hardern who was able to apply a simple finish.

A 5th soon followed when a short corner broke down Hughes’ “shot” found Price at the back post who managed to apply the final touch.

Timperley now in complete control were able to dictate play comfortably, winning the ball and creating a number of chances. A 6th was added just before half time as Matt Hardern completed a first half hat trick as he was found 1 on 1 with ‘keeper making on mistake.

Sutty and Ross were pleased and wanted more of the same. Nothing really needed changing, just be more clinical.

With the second underway Timperley continued to dictate play but possibly due to the weather didn’t maintain their style of play and reverted at certain stages to the long ball that were easily cut out giving Alderley a glimmer of hope as they had possession but were unable to do anything with it. As players started to struggle in the heat green cards started to make a fairly regular appearance with 3 for Timperley and more for Alderley with some alleged robust tackling (for Bolts anyway).

The only reward in the second half being a 4th Matt Hardern goal that rubber stamped the victory.

Extremely pleased with the result Timperley now look to welcome Didsbury Northern to Stockport Road in a re-run of their last preseason friendly where Timperley will be looking for the same outcome in terms of results.
