Record temperatures won't stop players hitting the turf this week for pre-season, Mixed 7's, fitness and an interesting Men's 1's away game !

Road's may be melting, the Moors alight, but nothing as minor as a heatwave can get in the way of hockey at Timperley !

Saturday the Performance Squads have their first pitch session of pre-season with Albert and Sav's as we start in earnest the 2018-19 campaign. Robbie Dagnell, our new Strength and Conditioning coach from the University of Chester will also be down to do more base line tests with the squads as we step things up a gear for the coming season's preparation. The Men's 1's are also preparing for an interesting friendly coming up next Saturday as part of their pre-season preparation with echo's of 2002 !

Sunday - its the Mixed 7's and thanks to Sarah Chancellor for organising the tournament with games starting at 11.00am. Come down to see the hockey, grab a drink in the bar and visit One Sports Warehouse who are bringing their mobile hockey shop to the club with many discount items (sticks, shoes and various accessories) with discounts up to 60%.

The Ladies Over 30's head up the A1 for a friendly 12 noon push back for the next round of the England Hockey Summer Championships - a new competition for this season in what looks like the quarter final ! Good luck to Leonnie Molloy and her band of dedicated hockey travellers !

Monday - is the hockey committee meeting and we'll be reviewing and hopefully the budget for the 2018-19 season, preparations for the season and the key strategic priorities for the committee focus on.

Tuesday - the Women's Summer League organisers Cath and Jackie are talking to teams about the clash with the England game and the plan for the night. Why not come down to the club to watch the England match on the big new telly we raised funds for by buying bonus ball numbers from Ashy and Sam !
***NO summer league tonight as teams voted to watch the Footy - Summer League will now be extended by one week with Finals Night now on 17th July ***

Wednesday - its Men's Summer League and Will and Connor will again be in action on and off the pitch counting and recounting the entry fees !

Thursday - its our first Strength and Conditioning session with Robbie Dagnell from the University of Chester - block 1 of this years pre-season fitness programme. The session will run 7.00pm - 8.00pm and is open to everyone from hockey.

Saturday (7th July) - we go again ! The Women Performance Squad will be training from 10am as the Men head to London for a pre-season match v Barbados at Indian Gymkhana HC.

For newer club member's THC has a long association with Barbados hockey, and of course more recently Trinidad and Tobago too since Albert joined us and Kwasi played here last season and of course now we have the weather too ! Even Albert agrees its warm ! Colin Taylor's touring side the Aardvarks has toured to Barbados a number of times (when younger !) and in 2002 Timperley hosted the Barbados Men's team as part of their preparations for the Manchester Commonwealth Games. This included the infamous Timperley v Barbados match on 21st July 2002.

Take a look at the team sheet (attached) we'll whisk over the score line but needless to say the Bajans showed off their scoring talents and following the games we recruited Rodney Phillips to THC as our overseas player, following by Rodney II ! Rodney P was at Timperley for nearly 10 years and became a great friend to many in the club until he headed to France for warmer weather - who knows if Rodney was playing Summer League at THC this week maybe even he would have taken him skins and tights off (a slight we don't was ever seen during his UK based hockey career).

We wish the Men 1's all the best for the game next Saturday - Dave Halkyard is the sole survive of the 2002 team still playing 1's but he is unable to play in the 2018 re-match. Other names and faces still around the club from the 2002 game include: Sanjay (spotted with a stick in his hand last week) Bolts (still in recovery from Sinead Higgins 7's), Rob Judd (not sure what he was up to on 21.7.02 !) Rick Ent and Mark Worsely and Colin Taylor with Paula Entwisle as 'management'.

Those were the days when the green pitch was the No.1 pitch, hosted some bumper crowds, and the Blue Pitch (as is now) was the boneshaker with no shock pad as it was originally used for tennis .....(when we had a tennis section) !

Enjoy the heatwave and any hockey you're involved in this week !
