Don't forget to get down to the TSC Festivities Today plus hockey rounds up as the Ladies and Men's 1's hit the Indoor Court this weekend !

Its been a busy week on and off the pitch at THC – with the completion of the first block of league fixtures for all teams and a 12-hour fund-raising frenzy when the TSC members raised over £7,000 as part of the Grow a Tenner match funding scheme through the Local Giving organisation.

Tremendous response in a short timescale saw 36 club members sign up to donate £10 a month for 12 months and we have a very good hockey response and would like to thank everyone associated with hockey who signed up. See the news story with more details about Grow a Tenner, why we are fund-raising as a club and other ways to support the club. Just shows how much can be raised by a small contribution and the commitment of players, former players and parents.

Score on the doors

A wet, windy and cold Saturday marked the end of the first block of league games with most teams getting drenched in the process! Not many wins – with Men’s 1’s beating Oxton 5-3, Men’s 2’s fired in more goals with a 8-2 win, Ladies 3’s continued to pile pain on a struggling Bebbington winning 16-0 and a fine 1-0 win for the Badgers v Bowdon.
Here’s how the league positions stand for all senior teams. With the expansion of the National League opening up the number of promotion places across the North and NWHL and Cheshire League there’s plenty to play for in the second half of the season. With four teams going up from North Premier the 1’s stay in touch with the pack as we push to get both 1’s team into the top flight of the National League.

Men 1’s (4th); Men’s 2’s (1st); Men’s 3’s (9th); Men’s 4’s (2nd) Men’s 5’s (9th) and the Men’s 6’s (11th)
Ladies 1’s (9th); Ladies 2’s (6th); Ladies 3’s (6th); Ladies 4’s (6th) and the Ladies 5’s (9th)

EH Championships

The Ladies 2’s fought to the end in a very competitive match last Sunday and came out on top winning 2-1 away at Alderley Edge in the Tier 2 competition. Congratulations to the latest #Blues team making into the next round – and picking up an away draw and a hope over to the Isle of Man to play Vikings HC!

This Sunday the Ladies Over 35’s hope to keep up winning ways and play Boston Spa from the Leeds are on Sunday morning at 11.20am. Due a lacrosse tournament at the club the match will be played at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (The Grammar) – all spectators welcome. Good Luck to Captain Tracy Rimmington and the squad let's hope we can make it seven senior teams hitting the road to Lee Valley.

Training

We’ll be using Tuesday session (18th December) for some social hockey and matches – times tbc apart from the Men’s 1’s who will train as usual. There will be no academy sessions this Tuesday. Numbers have dropped off in recent weeks so we hope there will be lots of New Year resolutions and more players will be down when we start back on Sunday 6th January (academy) and Tuesday 8th January (seniors and U16’s).

Super 6’s Indoor Hockey season pushes back this weekend !

The very short English Indoor Hockey season pushes back for Club’s this weekend with the Regional Qualifying Tournaments for the Super 6’s. This year the Men’s 1’s have joined the ladies 1’s in testing themselves playing the fast and exciting indoor format of the game.
Both teams travel to Leeds Becket University this weekend (Ladies on Saturday and Men on Sunday) and the winners of each regional qualifier will go through to Division 2 (North) on the weekend 5th / 6th January. Good luck to Indoor captains Vicky Lomas and Ben Nicholson and the #Blues squads this weekend

Congratulations also to Albert Marcano, and the Altrincham Grammar School for Boys Under 18’s, who were crowned North Champions the other week and have qualified for their third EH National Schools Finals on the bounce. They play on 11th and 12th January at Whitgift School and we wish Albert, Ben Nicholson, Ben Entwisle and all the AGSB and staff all the best for the finals.
World Cup Semi Finals

Finally this week, it was good to see England Men beat New Zealand earlier in the week to reach the Quarter Finals World Cup and a tough match v Argentina who continue to be a major force in world hockey. A tough fought game and goal line defending from Barry Middleton, and fast counter attacking got England their first win against Argentina for two decades and Semi Final tie v Belgium on Saturday 15th December at 10.30am on BT Sport and the Netherlands v Australia Semi Final at 1.00pm. The Final and Bronze play off are on Sunday 16th December so try and watch if you can or catch up with the online highlights.

Look forward to seeing many hockey members and families later today for the TSC Festive gathering.
