Celebrations for the over 50's, final plans in place for our end of season #OneClub day on 13th May & Summer hockey almost upon us !

National Champions - congratulations to the Men's Over 50's !

What a start to the week with our Men's Over 50's being crowned England Hockey Tier 3 Champions on Saturday 28th April 2018 at the University of Birmingham.

On a chilly, drizzly day Colin Taylor's squad, Coach Jamie Buxton, Tim and Perley and a small band of loyal supporters settled in to see what Marden Russets from Kent could throw at the Blues ! After last years disappointment of finishing Runner's Up at Lee Valley the squad looked fully on message not to let anything give or slip over the full 70 minutes. Solid in all department building from the back the early pressure paid off in the 15th Minute with Albert sweeping up the second shot from the Penalty Corner to make it 1-0. More pressure was countered by a against the run of play field goal by Marden. Timperley pressing up the pitch failed to convert so excellent build up play but converted in the 27th Minute this time through a slip to Stu Nich at another penalty corner. 2 - 1 (HT)

Half time as a distraction ploy Tim and Perley took to the pitch as part of the half time entertainment with a shoot out - the challenges for turtles in holding and stick and taking a flick were laid bare for all to see ! But we did our bit and the turtles made another EH Twitter account appearance !

Second half underway and a controlled but attacking Timperley performance couldn't add to the tally when Marden's counter on 48 minutes brought the equaliser against the run of play. Taking no time to dwell the Blues responded in the best possible way straight from the restart, winning another PC and this time Duncan Brown took the text book straight strike option to regain the lead 3 - 3 on 49 minutes. The crowd sensed that year there was no way the gents would let anything slip before the final whistle and the pressure was maintained with attack after attack. Leaving nothing to chance Albert finished off the day with a Caribbean Waltz around the back line to net the fourth and decisive goal on 70 minutes to give Timperley their first ever national trophy win (well in living memory !) winning 4 - 2.

Congratulations to all involved and great to see Timperley lifting a trophy at a National Final - throwing down the gauntlet now to other teams across the club ! See the Photo's from the day and video of three of the goals !

Summer Hockey

No sooner than we formally close off the 2017 - 18 season - then we are off out of the blocks with the ever popular 2018 THC Summer Leagues. As well as a great hockey event run over 10 weeks this is lso a major fund-raiser for the hockey section so please help out each week with the organisation, putting goals out and away, helping umpire, on the table, timing etc all the help our organisers out.

Contact Kath Thomson and Jackie Lord for the Women's Summer League (Tuesday's from 15th May) and Will Tobin for the Men's (Wednesday's from 16th May) for details about playing, umpiring and helping.

We're hosting the new EH Local 6's at the club on Sunday 17th June too and the Ladies Vet's 7's on Saturday 9th June.

Next week we should be confirming the date of the Mixed Tournament in early July and getting invites out to other clubs.

Other news

With all the various league play off's now pretty much completed the various leagues should be confirming any outstanding relegation and promotion places. We are eagerly awaiting to hear if two teams go up from NWHL Division 3 South or one - fingers crossed its two and the Men's 2's gain promotion. We should hear the outcome after the next NWHL Committee meeting on 8th May 2018.

Player recruitment - with changes to the National League in 2019-20 we are full on with the preparation work for the 2018-19 season for both 1's squads. The review meetings for last season are complete and now planning is focused on the preparation for the new season. Both the Men and Women are looking to strengthen their squads and the Women's Player Opportunity Advert should be on the EH website next week - followed by one for the Men too. The Men are specifically are looking for a Goalkeeper and out field players to strengthen the squad.

Do your bit for the Club if you know of players looking for a new club, moving to the area or looking for a change - who have National League or Regional Premier experience - get in touch asap with Dave Halkyard, Kelly Burdett, Vicky Lomas or Albert.

We're putting the finishing touches to the Pre-Season Schedule and will be issuing shortly so you can all book the dates in the dairy.

Finally, as many of you may be aware Glynis Tucker passed away recently, the funeral will be held at 9.40am on Wednesday 9th May 2018 at Altrincham Crematorium then back to Timperley Hockey (Sports) Club for refreshments. Family flowers only. Glynis was the much lived wife of our Treasurer Malcolm, and our thoughts are with him at this time.
