In preparation for the new season, we’ve been working to review our senior coaching programme following Ali Ghazanfar’s decision to step away from coaching at the Club. We thank Ali for his contribution over the past two seasons and wish him well for the future.
We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Simcock as our new Head Coach for our women’s club and performance programme, including club training, performance squad training and Ladies 1s match days. Chris will be working closely with Neil Stanford (Stanny) who will work with Chris to deliver Club training, work with the performance squad and be lead coach for Ladies 2. Both will be working with Lydia Maddock, Women’s Club Captain to plan our 25-26 programme and build in feedback from our recent surveys and reviews to support us to go from strength to strength.
Chris is no stranger to the club having been our men’s 2’s coach in the 2023/24 season and we’re delighted to have him back on board and joining the team. Chris has extensive coaching experience including having completed the England Hockey Advanced Coach Programme and completed an MSc in Elite Coaching Practice in 2024. Chris is the hockey professional at Rossall School and Lead Girls Coach for the EH North West Talent Academy. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience of the hockey in the North West and player development and talent pathways..
We remain committed to our goal of the Ladies 1’s returning the national league hockey and we know how fine the margins are to gain promotion as well as developing the depth of hockey below the performance squads to support of pathway for players to play 1’s and 2’s. We will also be aiming to recruit adult players across all levels to complement our amazing pipeline of junior players.
Pre-season plans will be shared shortly and Chris and Stanny are looking forward to inviting players to Performance Squad pre-season training, with fitness in June and on pitch from July when everyone has had the opportunity for a physical and mental break, played some summer hockey and if ready to get back to hit the turf. Club pre-season will later in August.
