Patty Cup Weekend - what's it all about !
17 Timperley and Bowdon teams battle it out from 10th to 12th September showing the "Spirit of Club Hockey" at it best, a celebration of all things special about our sport, club hockey and people that make it so special, and of course friendly local rivalry !
Games start on Thursday 10th September with:
All other games are played on Saturday 12th September
Look out for the leader board updates !
We set this competition up following the passing of a true club legend, friend to all and one of the kindest people you'll ever meet, Pat Marston. Pat was a life long Blue but also great friends with our neighbours Bowdon and we set this competition up to keep alive everything Pat loved about our sport and our two clubs.
The format works Ryder Cup style - of the 17 matches 1 points are awarded for a win, 1/2 a point for a draw to each club, 0 for a loss.
Remembering Pat, and those no longer with us, gives all involved the opportunity to play in their memory and its a weekend of hockey that's very much about a celebration of lives well lived, of hockey and the friendships the sport brings. From the Men's and Women's 1's to our young Otters all teams are playing for points on the leader board!
Pat was a walking example of everything that is so special about our club and he is still deeply missed by all. Patty was also a great friend to Bowdon HC too and the 'Pat Marston Challenge Trophy' is an annual competition played between our two clubs to remember Pat and celebrate all that was so special about him and his life. Thanks again to the Horan family for donating the trophy to remember Pat.
The winner is the club that's accumulated most points. The honours have been: 2020 (Bowdon), 2021 (Timperley), 2023 (Bowdon) 2024 (Timperley?) and 2025 Bowdon won by 1 point to retain the Cup. So let's see who is triumphant in 2026
Presentation
This year the trophy will be presented around 6pm after the final match at Timperley (Men's 8/Vets v Bowdon Men's Vets - push back 4.45pm) so we hope you enjoy the day and can get back to the Club for the final games.
The Patty Cup is our tribute and annual way of remembering Pat Marston who we tragically lost in 2020.
