Welcome back to our regular THC weekly updates – it’s felt like an extremely busy start to the season as we’ve managed a number of changes and turns out folks are missing our THC News Round Up’s! We’ll see be using the Instagram, facebook and the What’s App Community to make sure everyone gets all the THC News and Updates to keep up to date with all the news, updates and events.
Timperley Men’s 1 v Bowdon Men’s 1s – 6pm 18th October 2025 – be there!
It’s nearly 25 years since the M1’s last played Bowdon in a league match – so it’s a special day and let’s get a bumper crowd down to create a home advantage and show the neighbours what great 12th player we can be! Following promotion, the step up to Division 1 North (tier 2 of English hockey) is providing a new level of hockey at the club, with speed and intensity that’s a big notch up from Conference North – all added to by our new ball patrol team and thanks to the juniors who are keeping the games moving at lightning pace!
Saturdays at the club
It’s a busy one today! Whilst we’ve only six home matches there’s plenty to pop down to the club for!
Saturday 18th October
Based on the feedback from our survey last season we’ve also locked in 15th and 29th November for more informal Saturday Night Socials at the club linked to men’s 1’s Saturday Night Under the Lights home games as a good way for everyone to meet us and enjoy some off pitch time! Save the date and on 29th November its another derby day v Deeside and with live music from 7.45pm
On pitch updates
It seems bonkers that we’re almost at the October break and we will be doing a full round up for the first block of matches after this weekend. Last week was week 5 for our NW teams who are now all settling into the rhythm of the season. It was great to see back to back wins for the L1, 2 & 3s and the L6s beat Sale 3's 1 - 0 to retain 100% record and top the table! This is a good solid start for the ladies teams.
M2's had their ‘derby’ with Bowdon losing 4 - 3 after being 4 -0 down in a valiant come back scoring their first on 52 mins! M3 were back to winning ways with a 9 - 1 win v Preston and a hat trick for Ed Harrop. M4's went top of Div 5 (E) and undefeated with a 2 -0 win at Stockport. M8's (Dev) made it two wins on the bounce with a solid 3 -0 win v Lymm.
Sunday saw both MO45 and WO45 heading to the EH Masters Trophy after EH championship defeats but a big win for U16G in T1 EH Supra league v Sheffield and away and U16B in T2NW with a 9-1 win away at Preston. Our young blues U8,U10 and U12’s are also enjoying Sunday GM tournaments at the Armitage.
M1’s had a tough weekend with a double header. Following a solid and credible 2-1 defeat away at Loughborough Uni the week before, the defence of Nottingham Uni proved invincible, and a 4 -0 loss didn’t reflect our chances or run of play on Saturday night. The short trip to Deeside on the Sunday for the rearranged game (due to flooding on the opening day) provided a feisty affair as you’d expect with a Cheshire Derby and ended 2 – 2.If you missed the first two home games catch up with the 1's news from the match day programmes (attached to download)

Making Hockey Happen – thanks to our volunteers, members and parents
The start of the season is always one full of lots of off pitch activity as we set up for another season of matches, training, events and all the administrative activities needed to run 14 adult league sides, 5 masters teams and over 16 junior sides offering hockey for over 400 players. Our volunteers have done a great job and a notable thanks to Leila Williamson our new Junior Chair whose worked with our parents and coaches to get in place the team to run our junior programme. Thanks also all our captains and especially the new ones who’ve now mastered GMS and all that goes into getting a team on the pitch for a match.
We still need to encourage more people to give a little time to helping #makehockeyhappen on and off the pitch – umpires and junior coaches are still needed so if you can help and give a little back, please get in touch. Training and support are provided. Big thanks to Andrew Entwisle and Jo Nicholson who has worked tirelessly to ensure we have umpires for all games and to those who’ve stepped up to blow a whistle!
Thanks also to everyone for paying their 25-26 TSC membership and THC fees – this has been one of the best years for collecting on time and thanks as this helps save loads of volunteer time but not having to chase subs !
Kit Update - deliveries and next orders
We’ve had really positive feedback about the new kit range designed with and provided by Eighteen Hockey. The new badge has gone down really well, and the new women’s shorts have been flying off the shelves! The option to try samples for sizing pre-ordering has also been welcomed.
Our next order window opens on Monday 20th October and will run until Sunday 2nd November – this will be our ‘Christmas Shop’ so get your orders in for delivery pre-Xmas and take a look at some additional items we’ve added to the range for one and off the pitch wear!
Deliveries from the order window that closed on 12th September have been a little delayed are scheduled for delivery to your home (if opted for post) or the Club w/c 3rd November. A reminder that the core items, shirts, shorts, skorts, hoodies, ¼ Zips are bespoke and made to order to our own design. In this first major order, it has taken additional times to quality assure and check the schedules from the factory and that they have fully replicated our bespoke requirements. On this first order it has taken a little longer to ensure everything is correct.
Please don’t contact Eighteen Hockey about deliveries – we work closely with Jo and we will put out updates on the expected delivery dates for all orders
Timperley Sports Club News
Hockey’s support for the recent TSC Great Timperley Auction was amazing – both in the ‘lots’ generously donated but also the level of bidding. This year’s auction was to raise funds for a major transformation and refurbishment of the bar area and the final total raised was £8,866.
The project to build the clubhouse extension and refurbish the bar are at the detailed stage of getting ready to sign of and go to tender with the target date to start work as January 2026. Over the weekend more details about the project and plans will be going up in the clubhouse so do have a look. It’s also fantastic that Andy Murphy has also volunteered and joined the project team and brings a wealth of experience in project management in the construction industry.
This next phase of work is the final ‘push’ to compete Project 18 the club’s development project. With £500,000 invested in the clubs’ pitches since 2020 this final phase of work on the building, blue pitch and overall site will deliver another £650,000 investment in our club. Just like the hockey section, TSC is what we make it and what we put into it for current and future generations. We welcomed two new TSC Ltd Trustee/Directors in September who join the Board – Joanne Robinson from hockey and Sam Brooks (non playing member) and well known to many in hockey.
We need to find our next fundraiser towards the bar refurbishment element of the overall project – so if you have any great ideas and experience of running fundraising activities please get in touch with Shelagh Everett or Colin Taylor
…and finally, this week other news!
Our lost property mountain is growing and we’d like you to help us reduce it! Pretty much all items don’t have names on so we’d can’t repatriate, and we do recommend naming sticks too! Hockey branded lost property is in the pitch side store room in a black bin liner by the first aid boxes and non-branded items are in the clubhouse bagged behind the screen by the pool table. Items will be sent of recycling / charity from 3rd November or for hockey branded items put into our ‘pre-loved’ kit sale rail available on a Sunday morning. Please check if you’ve lost any kit and grab a sharpie and name your hockey stash!
Enjoy the weekends hockey and watch this space for next weeks update!
