Hockey Round Up

  • Men’s and Women’s 1s do the double over Doncaster picking up all the points – a tight 1 – 0 win for the women and a 7 – 2 thriller for the men – both are 2nd in Conference North
  • M2’s picked up an important win on the road at Crewe with goals from Simon Swatland and Wilf Roberts and sit 5th in NW Prem
  • L2’s beat promotion challenger Fylde 2 3 – 1 to stay 5 points clear at the top of NW Div 1 and need to retain the one game at a time focus for the final run in.
  • M3’s took the points too with just the 8 goals and now sit top of NW Div 4, 1 point ahead of neighbours Sale 1s. More of the same for 6 more games for Tucker’s men.
  • The M4 took the bragging rights v M5’s - M6’s game v Leigh needs to be re-arranged, and HT struck and meant no M7 v Men’s Dev either
  • L3 just couldn’t get those points or goals v Didsbury and we need some big blue support for the girls as our 12th player to give them a lift on the pitch and up the table.
  • The Badgers and Beavers have had a Half Term fixtures break but they’ll be back next weekend !

It’s also a SUPER QF CUP SUNDAY for our young Blues this weekend! Come down and support the U18 Boys v Wakefield (1pm) in the EH T2 Championships. A big road trip for the U14 Girls v Doncaster in the EH T2 Plate (we’re current holders) – all the best to both teams, coaches and supporters.

Hot water !
Work starts this week to install the new TSC hot water system so hopefully by next weekend we’ll be firing on both heater and they’ll be plenty of hot water. Thanks for everyone’s patience whilst the club has investigated a range of options, sourced a £10k grant funding towards some of the cost. The new system is costing over £25k and provides hot water for the whole building and is future proofed to give us the option to convert to colour in future. This is an example of the costs the Club has to fund from income from subs, hires, bar and fundraising.

Please be aware there may be no hot water at times during w/c 27th February – including in the evenings if you’re planning on shower after training.

Summer time and Summer is just around the corner so its nearly time for ......
...Sumer League ! The plan is to start the Women's Summer League on Tuesday 9th May and the Mens on Friday 12th May for 10 weeks! a As well as being really good fun this is also a major fundraiser for hockey and help fund a good slug of our running costs.

Before we go out to promote Summer and recruit teams we need to find new organisers for the Men's and Women's Leagues - ideally a pair of people for each. We've lots of past experience, plans, models to run the league so its all pretty much set up ready to roll - it would also be lvoely to refresh things abit if you've got new ideas. If interested in a chat please contact Dave Price or Jo Robinson ideally by 7th March.

Physiotherapy Research Project
Emily Wright one of our players whose a student at MMU if looking to recruit adult (18+) volunteers to her research project. See attached flier and the posters in the club.

…some more thank you’s and updates!
Thanks for all the support last weekend as we bagged all 6 points v Doncaster. It was also a real pleasure to speak with the officials after the game who complemented us on a great atmosphere and positive crowd – so let’s keep it up today get behind the team and #RESPECT all involved on and off the pitch.

Thanks to Anna Mawby for spending part of her Half Term working through junior player lists to help close off the 22-23 TSC Subs and THC Fees for new joiners and chasing up and other players where subs are outstanding. Thanks Anna big help and thanks too to the parents for following up with membership payments.

Thanks to John and Janet Wood who not only sponsored last weeks match but also ran the cake Stall and raised £105 for the Blue Pitch Replacement Fund a cracking effort and the cakes were exceedingly good too !

Thanks also to everyone whose been to the 1’s matches this season and made a donation on the gate – so far we’ve raised £680 also towards the Blue Pitch Replacement Fund showing how every pound really does count. All contributions are welcome and it would be fantastic if we can hit £1k or more by the final home EHL game on 1st April. So please keep bringing your coins down to the games as they really do make a difference !

No decisions have been made yet on timing or final project scope Blue Pitch Project yet, but hockey will be feeding inputs over the next few weeks on improvements we think would benefit the club and how to raise the money to fund them. If you’ve got ideas have a chat, or pop into one of the drop-in sessions we’ll holding shortly or have a chat to Shelagh or one of the Committee.

Here's to a good weekend and hope to see players, parents and supporters at the club.
