Weekly Update - the green green grass (well turf) is back !

Shelagh Everett21 Jul 2020 - 23:49

Catch up on all things THC in this weeks update, we've hockey news, pitch news, details about bar opening & ways to pay subs!

The hockey !
England Hockey are due to make announcements in the next week on the next steps for the Return to Hockey after the Governments latest announcements. Its likely we will be moving to Step 4 (friendlies) sooner than anticipated and this should include guidance for how we can start pre-season training beyond social distancing play.

Our Performance Manes and Women’s Squads start back with social distancing this week on Tuesday (women) and Thursday (men) from 8pm. It will be a bit odd with the squads working through drills in four groups of 5/6 players across the full pitch.

We’ve also started a pilot this week for a number of academy players to test out some different ways of running social distance coaching. Plus. We’re still offering 121 coaching, small group coaching and masterclasses (for all ages – academy and senior, never too old to learn).

Return to Play ‘play zones’ are also still available to book Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday’s. Once we get the latest EH guidance we’ll be reviewing how we can apply to start pre-season sessions for other senior groups. We don’t usually run Academy training in the summer so will reviewing once we’ve completed the pilot what we maybe to add based on pitch and coach availability.

Green Pitch – a green on green moment !

Great excitement this week as the ‘turf’ has arrived and again Charles Lawrence Surfaces Ltd have cracked on and made great progress. But don’t get too excited as this next stage of the project takes a couple of weeks the final elements, sand dressing, In2Hockey (7 a side) marking etc

Next step is finalising the costing and design for the planned fence replacement and working with our funders on the updated budget now we don’t need to replace the Macadam sub base. Thanks to Dave Halkyard for editing the initial time lapsed footage of stripping of the old pitch (available on the website, facebook and twitter if not seen it !) and we cant wait to see the final production!

We’re still chasing down our fund-raising target and if you’ve not supported in any of the ways possible please support and help us if you can. Thanks to everyone who has generously helped so far

New Season New Committee!

We also welcome Haroon Bangee to the Hockey Committee as Vice Chair (TSC activities) and Anna Mawby our new Academy Co-ordinator and big thanks of course to Nisha who Anna takes over from. Click Here for AGM Summary, New Committee and Q and A The 2019-20 Video was also shared and is attached so do take a look !

Crickets Back and Bars Open
We successfully ran our first post lockdown social distancing bar opening sessions last weekend and big thanks to all the staff ad Jane and Sam for working so hard to make it all happen and keep everyone safe too. Last weekend was very much a trial to test how the procedures works in practice and how the flow of people worked. They’ll be a few tweaks this weekend so keep checking in to all the usual places for details of this weekend’s opening hours and arrangements. https://www.timperley-sports.com/

You can also pick up packs of TSC branded facemasks (3 for £10) when ordering from the Bar – and each pack sold makes as donation to the Green Pitch Fund – or from the TSC Pop Up Shop – use code Summer20 for free postage

Inside the bar bookings for the limited number of tables are for members only. If using the takeaway service from the decking don’t forget to bring your own chairs, blankets and help keep everyone safe by social distancing and following the guidance.

Sadly, rain stopped play on Saturday but hopefully TCC will get their season underway this weekend so, do come down and support and have a few drinks if you can.

One more week and we may have a little more hockey back as we know it !

Stay Safe
