Newly promoted Timperley Ladies 1Xi come head to head vs Investec National League Winners 2015-16 Wakefield

Timperley ladies second home fixture in the Investec league saw the mighty blues taking on Wakefield. The girls met early to support the Mens 1Xi on the sidelines and get fired up for their fixture, after a Geography lesson for vice Captain Jay Mortimer.. what continent is Trinidad and Tobago...

Walking off the pitch and the Timperley girls spotted a familiar face from a game a few weeks ago, wonder if she remembers Pepper.

The girls were in good spirits playing at home and after an clear illustration from Coach Danny Higgin regarding the press felt they were ready for the challenge, Timperley came out hard against Wakefield and settled in to the game. First 10 minutes the game was evenly matched with play in both D's with great saves from Rachel Small. A foot in the D saw the first short for Wakefield, injection out to top D and a slip to the right found the injectors stick on near post to give Wakefield the first goal of the match.

Timperley stepped up their game and a ball found Jay lurking in the wings, after taking on her player she ran in to the D for a shot on goal which was blocked by the keeper, Leonnie Molloy followed up with the rebound which came at such pace Jay had to dive on the floor. Sadly the ball didn't find the back of the net, more than likely on the 7th hole on Altrincham Golf Course.

Half time whistle, 0-1.

Timperley raised the tempo, with pace coming from both Catherine Thompson-Smith and Alex Pepper on the wings, players finding it difficult to keep up with them. A long corner found Timperley in the attacking 25, the ball found Kate Goalen and was drilled in to the D, Leonnie posting up to the ball got a touch on it and found the back of the net 1-1.

Wakefield stepped up the pace, and came knocking on Timperley's door, great composure in the middle from Sarah Chancellor, Caroline Small and Kim Nkonde kept the Wakefield midfield driving through the centre. The ball got transferred across the back and Timperley's forward line making the yards across the pitch to put on the pressure, a ball came through the middle and was fired in to the D, with a Wakefield tip in 1-2 with less than 5 minutes to go.

Timperley chose to play offensive and took keeper Rachel Small out of the goal, 11 outfield players to get the point. 2 minutes to play found wakefield under the cosh, With a strong press (thanks Danny) the ball was intercepted by Becky Schofield, unfortunately took a touch on the leg and a free hit was awarded and quickly taken. The ball came down the left side and made it over the back line, Timperley's 16... unfortunately the ball got cut out by the familiar face and with an open net made the score line 1-3, with seconds to spare.

MOM - Caroline Small & Kate Goalen
DOD - Jessica Mortimer for getting overexcited and missing the subs chair
