Dominant performance gives Timperley first league victory of the season

Timperley on their way up!

After a slow start for Timperley this season, the second home game proved worthy with a first victory in Investec Women's National Hockey League which moved Timperley up the table into 7th place.

The day started well with a motivational team talk from the coaching staff, with all players feeling pumped and ready to go, and with great support coming from the large crowd of spectators, it was time for Timperley to show the rest of the club what they were made of and prove their worth as a strong unit in national league.

Opposition start with push back, however great pressure from Leonnie Malloy who won the ball in the oppositions half, attacked the ball and scored a great goal with a perfect strike bottom corner making it Timperley 1 - Sefton 0 on 3 minutes. Timperley ladies continued to press the ball majority of the second, transferring the ball well across and along the pitch. On the 18th minute a great attack allowed Amanda Neurock in on goal who scored making it Timperley 2 - Sefton 0. Timperley continued with pressure and won several short corners with Sefton struggling to find away through as the Timperley stayed solid at the back keeping a clean sheet going into the second half.

Second half with Timperley push back, and a couple of mistakes and lack of communication allowed Sefton the ball, who took their chance and scored on 38th minute making it Timperley 2 - Sefton 1. This unsettled Timperley for the next few minutes , however after positive communication and discipline Timperley took back control of the game.

Timperley started moving the ball well inside and down the lines putting Sefton defence under immense pressure, with the forwards attacking the ball, however whilst running for a 50/50 ball Michelle Mortimer-Collier slid, missing the ball and clattering into a player earning herself a yellow card on 49 minutes.

Despite Timperley being down to 10 players, it didn’t seem to phase them and they continued to apply the pressure winning another short corner. A great short corner routine allowed Samantha Hargreaves to deflect the ball towards goal, however with a save from the goalkeeper off the pads, Amanda Neurock went for the rebound, however being overstretched, lost her balance as the defender cleared the ball which then clattered into Amanda head. Timperley ladies lost Amanda for the rest of the game, with a trip to the hospital.

Sefton still didn’t give up and won a short corner, however putting it wide past the post. Despite the closing minutes of the game Timperley won a short corner and on 67th minute, Kate Goalen great strike made the game Timperley 3 - Sefton 1. Three points for Timperley were imminent. Full time whistle, end result Timperley 3 Sefton 1. Despite not keeping a clean sheet, Timperley were very happy with their result and performance.

If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride - and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards (Paul Bryant). All in all it was a solid performance from Timperley who dominated majority of the game and for the first time this season came away with the points. A solid performance in particular from Kelly Burdett, not only Player of the match but making England Hockey team of the week. Next week game away to Loughborough and another opportunity for Timperley to get some points.
