Crucial 6 Point game - Weather disappoints, but the result doesn’t

Last game before the winter break, and the day brought sunshine, rain, wind and hail. The conditions were not ideal for either team, but that being said it was a 6 point game for Timperley. Winning at Liverpool would mean 3 points to add to their tally, and 3 points taken away from Liverpool.

Timperley start with push back and go on to score their quickest goal of the season so far. It was a great start and play from individuals which found the ball in the attacking third, and with some great skills and play from Leonnie Malloy put the ball in the net on the first minute, Liverpool 0 – Timperley 1.

Timperley carried onto attack winning some penalty corners, however were unfortunate to score any. There was some great attacking play down the left hand side coming from Catherine Thompson, and Liverpool Sefton seemed to struggle to deal with her pace. Timperley persisted with great pressure throughout and on the 15th minute managed to break down the right hand side again with Leonnie and her great skills, who dribbled into the D, slipping past the goal keeper very unselfishly to Michelle Mortimer-Collier who was square of the GK for a tap into goal, resulting in her first national league goal this season, Liverpool 0 - Timperley 2.

Timperley continued to attack throughout the first half creating several good opportunities to score, first with Amanda Neurock who on a 1v1 in the D with the GK, slipped as she went to hit the ball and unfortunately hit the GK pads. Another opportunity came from the right with Sarah Chancellor winning the ball and passing onto Michelle who showed great strength to get round players, putting the ball into the D, with the ball falling to Alice Cribb, who got a shot off, but was saved from the GK. Despite hard visibility into the sun and pressure from Liverpool, Timperley managed to keep a clean sheet going into the second half. Liverpool 0 - Timperley 2 (HT)

Timperley have showed several times throughout the season they can stick to a game plan in the first half, however the second half proved to be a real test for Timperley in order to seal the victory and take the points. Second half started and Liverpool's push back. Timperley looked comfortable, still creating chance after chance, and more short corners, again unfortunately couldn’t score. Amanda Neurock found herself in the D with some great opportunities to score, however the GK closed her down quickly forcing the early shot. On the 47th minute Timperley momentarily switched off and lost possession on a counter. With a player unmarked in the D, Liverpool took their opportunity and managed to slip the ball to the player close to goal, and unfortunately for Timperley weren't able to keep the ball out leading to Liverpool scoring a goal on the 47th minute, Liverpool 1 - Timperley 2.

Despite Timperley conceding a goal, the girls didn’t look like they was going to lose the game at any point, despite an average performance all round. Despite the torrential hail and rain, Timperley kept the lead quite comfortably, despite a poor performance based on previous games the result didn’t disappoint for Timperley, and it could have easily been a higher score.

FINAL SCORE Liverpool Sefton 1 - Timpeley 2

The result lifted Timperley to 7th in IWHL Conference North above Wakefield on goal difference to close off the first half of the season. IWHL games resume on 3rd February with a home game v Durham University.
