2nd XI show true colours!

Last Saturday the ladies 2s took on Bolton ladies 1st team on home turf. After two unfortunate losses in their previous games they were keen to get some well-deserved points back on the board. But in true 2nd team style they had to have a little adversity, just to make the game that little bit more exciting.
An hour before push back, due to unforeseeable circumstances the 2nd team found themselves without a goalkeeper and no time to find a replacement. For most teams this would have caused a lot of panic and a strong consideration of even fielding a team- not Timperley. The girls did what the girls do best, came together as a team and made a team decision to play with a kicking back and go out there and show Bolton that no matter the issues they would shake it off and play their game.

The game started off with the woman’s 2nd team going out strong from the first whistle and for 70 minutes that’s how they played. But with a unfortunate scrappy goal just before the first half whistle Timperley were 1-0 down. But the 2nd team didn’t lose focus for a second and they went back out after half time even stronger. Utilising every player on the pitch and moving as a unit from beginning to end. With forwards making fantastic runs, Midfield making some crucial decision with fantastic work rate and defence creating a brick wall throughout the second half pushing high with confidence, a well-deserved goal soon came for the 2nd team in the form of a short corner rocket. Next came a controversial short corner for Bolton which ended in another goal for the opposition.
Challenge accepted.
The 2nd team fought back to score another fantastic goal from a short corner which started from a counter attack from our defence.

The final whistle left the game 2-2 for the woman’s 2nd team. With a remarkable show of exactly how a great team deals with adversity. A fantastic result in such difficult circumstances. The team showed team work, determination and pure fight. This can be seen in our incredible right Back Vicky Clift being picked for the England Hockey team of the week (link below)

Timperley women’s 2nd team showed the rest of the league that last Saturday was a turning point in their season and the team walked off that pitch with their heads held high knowing that in a situation where others may have crumbled they played one of their best games of the season.
They go in to this week’s game ready to show the league that if that’s what they can do in a situation like that- they are not a team to be underestimated this season.
