It was a lovely sunny but a cold day at Formby Hockey Club, for the U14 Girls first match of the England hockey competition. The first 15 minutes of the match it was a very even contest with both teams putting in good tackles and creating great counter tackling opportunities. Timperley HC had the majority of the play attacking several times but Formby HC scored the first goal.
Timperley scored just before the half time break. This goal by Charlotte Lord who whacked it after dribbling into the circle.
After a tactical conversation at halftime from our coach Sarah. Timperley girls came back having regrouped and started back as the stronger team and really put Formby under pressure. Formby kept positive and kept counterattacking but Timperley kept them under pressure and it wasn't long before we scored our second goal this time by Josephine Hatton after a penalty corner. Josie tapped the ball in past the goalkeeper on the left hand side of the goal post.
Five minutes later we scored again this time by Elena Simpson, the goalie had made save at a previous goal attempt and then pushed out the ball and Elena tapped it back in. Fourth Goal was scored by Katie Chown who got in front of the defender to touch the goal past the Formby defender.
Formby came back and scored again. Kept attacking in a full on sprint into the deep and tapped in past our goal keeper. It was a well fought contest for both teams and the girls will have learnt a lot from this match and now can build on this for the next match on the 19th of November. This U14 Girls team played really well together and were very supportive of each other as team mates. There was some superb displays of hockey skills so well done to all. Final score 4-2 .
P.S Thanks to Ella Nicolson for cakes !
