Good win for the M6's clearly inspired by the called up Left Back - match day through the eyes of one G.Fish !

7th XI star Fisher was dramatically included in the must win home 6th XI fixture against Sale. Team mates were left agog at the quality of his warm up & tactical contribution to the team brief at match start. A couple of players were heard to remark ‘Thank crikey Fisher is playing, we have been a bit flakey at the back of late’. Drafted in to bolster the defence at left back, Fisher adapted to the new fangled tactics of Captain Gibson as if he had never been away.

In a pulsating first half Fisher was at the heart of all that was good about Timperleys play. The shovelled pass & the infamous push passes all found their targets with pinpoint accuracy and it was these that started all of the movements that lead to goals. It definitely would not have happened without him. In defence, Fisher knew instinctively when to let the speedy Sale forwards past him as he knew Gibson would tidy up and slip the ball back to him to allow further passing brilliance to occur.

The forwards played with confidence because they knew Fisher was behind them and by half time the sixes were six up. The team talk from Mssrs Gibson & Gough paid homage to Fishers excellence and encouraged the team to ‘play as good as Fisher’.

But the team knew that could not be and could only score another couple of goals at the expense of one. In the last 5 minutes Fisher pressed forward and astounded his team mates with his insightful runs and stick skills but could not add to the tally.

The end of the match was marked by three hearty cheers for Fishers performance as the team knew they would not have managed without him. Even both umpires were heard to remark that it was ‘the best left back performance’ seen at Timperley in the last month or so. They obviously knew quality when they saw it.

Covid restrictions prevented the team from carrying Fisher shoulder high from the pitch but they knew they could get his autograph if needed after the game as he is such a humble guy.

Skipper Gibson is facing selection difficulties in the forthcoming week considering how well Fisher played. Can he send him back to the 7’s? The team wait with bated breath.

Other players who were ok included Gough (4 goals), Flo (3 goals) & Riley (1 goal).

It should be noted that in the pre match warm up a squadron of pigs made a low level flypast over the blue pitch in tribute to Fisher
