Match Report - Gary Fisher
14 players mustered for the re-arranged 6th XI home fixture against City of Manchester.
The first half was a bit of a mixed bag in that Timperley played some decent enough stuff at times, good enough to earn half a dozen or so short corners and a penalty flick that were all ineffective against a CoM goalkeeper in good form. Amongst all of this, CoM had three or four forays into the Timperley D and scored with 3 of them giving Alan little chance to save. Some Timperley frustrations come half time at the poor state of affairs.
The half time talk focussed on just being better in the second half and to try and shake some of the rust off from the Christmas break. Sensing that the game was most probably lost the team settled to task and played a bit further up the pitch. This met with some success as CoM were not as secure in possession. Some card waving became necessary with a couple of Timperley players taking enforced rests for some poor tackling and some comments on the umpiring.
The team got through the period with 9 without conceding further and reduced the margin to one courtesy of a couple of goals from Taylor. Timperley's chances of forcing a draw were improved when CofM were down to 10 players for the last 10 minutes after a red card was awarded to one of the visiting players.
Fisher departed the left back slot after spilling some claret and the team pressed for the draw but to no avail with CoM glad to hear the final whistle blow to win 3-2.
A draw would have been a fairer result to reflect the second half improvement but it is difficult to recover a 3 goal start any time.
