The first of the two bragging rights fixtures this season between the men's 5 & 6's was a close run thing. In a keenly contested fixture the 5s eventually run out victors 6-4.
The 6th team completely bossed the first half with Howard & Scott finishing smartly in the D to give them the advantage with Neil Hornby somehow looping a ball over the 6's GK to partially redress the score. The game was held up for a while whilst Hallmark received treatment for a nasty facial injury that resulted in a trip to hospital. As the half wore on the 5s lost another couple of players to injury and it looked as though there was no way back. Tempers frayed resulting in a few verbal joustings and handbags being waived around by a few. It was with some relief for the fives that half time came.
The question was whether the 6s could maintain their excellent first half standard and could the fives shake off their torpor and get back into the game. This question was answered soon after the restart with a goal and the fives then started to knock it around as the 6s began to tire and the game was predominantly played in the sixes half as they scored five unanswered to run out victors.
A great game that was a good advert for engine room hockey at Timperley.
