First home game of the season

Before the match had started we were dreading playing Neston because in the past they had thrashed us. At the beginning of the match they were constantly on the attack and our only chance of scoring was on the counter attack. The defence with the help of goalkeeper Olivia stayed strong and did not let any goals in. As the match progressed we began to play better as a team and in turn we kept more possession of the ball. We took more shots at goal and Josh broke through the defence several times one of which lead to our first goal. Just before half time Harry scored a great goal due to great team play and nice, short, simple passes. By half time we were dominating the match and were winning 2-0. At half-time we had a team talk and then the second half got underway. The first few minutes of the second half were bad and Neston took advantage of this by getting a goal back. We had been too casual and just defending our lead. Only minutes after conceding we let another goal in and by now the scores were level. In the second half of the second half we finally began to step up our game. We got many short corners but were not able to finish any. Jacob hit the post twice and we were on top of our opposition constantly on the attack. The referee told a Neston player that there were only 5 minutes left of the match and that is when we suddenly realised that we had to get a goal before the end of the match. Neston had a few counter attacks but our players managed to defend well enough. Finally in the last few minutes Luke Kelly managed to score a goal and everyone was really happy but knew that we had to hold onto this lead until the end of the match. Neston attacked a few times, desperate to get a late equalizer but our team had turned strong defensively and there was no way that we would let them score. With about a minute remaining we managed to win the ball and went on one last attack. The ball was played around nicely and when it finally fell to Luke Kelly in the D he hit it into the net to secure the win. Everyone went mad and we knew that we had won our first match of the season. As soon as they took the push back the referee blew the whistle and the match ended. We had beat Neston 4-2!

FT Timperley 4 - Neston 2
