Great start to 2020

After an extended Christmas and New year break Timps Beavers were back in action with a win against Lymm. Two goals from Lilia early in the first half gave the parents something to cheer, taking their minds of the biting wind. The goals were built on a solid team performance from the start with mid fielders, Rory, Ruby, Megan and Patrick linking well with the forwards.
But what also impressed was the defensive work, tracking back and composure in our own D to distribute the ball from the back and turn defence into attack. Hannah VT, playing sweeper, mopped up any attacking threats that got past the defensive attentions of Grace or Isabelle with Tara putting in a captain's performance, leading by example and stopping any Lymm attacks through the centre. Despite numerous short corners against them, Timps finished the first half without conceding.
Lymm started the second half determined to take control but excellent goal keeping by Joseph and a bit of luck meant that they were unable to net despite a number of well defended short corners. Holly, playing some good passing hockey meant that our forwards, Charlie E, Charlie H, and Sahil were able to trouble the Lymm keeper. Theo looked to have missed his chance to get on the score sheet when an opportunity went wide, but give another through ball a few minutes later he slotted it in making the score 3-0. Credit to Lymm who were rewarded when one of their many short corners finally snuck in, taking the final score to 3 -1 to the away team.
With the sun setting and temperatures dropping, it was the Timps players that could head home with the warm glow of a win in their first game of 2020. Well played Beavers.
