A bumper week !

Last weekend was a bumper one for fund-raising with the Dinner raising over £1000 and the Men's Tournament on Saturday organised so well by Alex Morley, raising another £800. Both events have made a major contribution to hockey section fund raising - you can find out more about why we need to fund-raise and how we use the funds at the Hockey AGM on Sunday 13th May 2018.

The Men's Tournament saw the return of the penalty shuffle to decide the semi final and final and Birkenhead were this years winners. Summer league starts in just over two weeks - gents let Will Tobin know if you want to play (and help) and there's also a poll on Facebook if you want to play. Ladies let Cuey know or your captain - we have three ladies teams and are just looking for / finalising captains.

The next big weekend tournament is the Ladies Vets 7's on 9th June - contact Jo Nicholson if you know of any teams that may like to enter, and we're still trying to finalise a date for the Mixed 7's (open to other clubs) in July.

National Schools Finals

A hectic week for Albert down at Lee Valley with Altrincham Grammar Schools for Boys Under 14 's and 16's this week - the only state school to have reached the finals. It was great to have five Timperley boys playing and gaining so much experience. Well done to Will and Oli in the Under 14's and Tarun, Oli E and Tate in the Under 16's. Some real highs and lows for all involved but a fabulous opportunity for our young players to play against some of the best young in the country. Albert's next assignment is to take AGSB U13's to their National Finals too ! Not bad for one season three outdoor and two indoor national finals !

Timperley Sports Club - AGM

Thanks to all those from hockey who came along to the Club AGM, a lively meeting as ever with wide ranging debate and a presentation on the Club Development - more updates on this over the next few weeks and planned working groups to be set up over the summer to input to the shaping the design and final scope of the project by the end of 2018.

The aim is to complete the 'masterplan' by the end of the year including three linked areas: Site Management (including parking); Pitches (including lighting and surrounding area) and Clubhouse development / expansion. If you have specific skills and experience that may be relevant and helpful they'll be the opportunity to get involved in the working groups.

Two key decisions that will impact hockey were made:

- increase subscriptions for 2018-19 by £10 for a senior playing member to £170 and this will ripple through other membership categories, and £5 for an Under 18 to £65 (excluding coaching fees). This covers all four sports and is still offers some of the best value around compared to subs at other clubs - none of which have two pitches and clubhouse on site. They'll be more information on subs later in the summer including details of what subs cover and go towards. Subs only part of the income raised to fund running the whole club, thankfully as we have pitch hire, trading and bar aw well as other fund-raising to meet the costs of running the club.

- the decision was also made to progress becoming an incorporated legal entity and register as a Community Benefit Society with except charity status. The aim is to complete the set up ready to go live from 1st January 2019. There will be an EGM later in the year once all the detail has been prepared.

A highlight of the evening was the election of Vice Presidents and Honorary Life Members.
Hockey nominated Rob Judd to become a Vice President of Timperley Sports Club for services to the hockey section. Juddy joined the club in 1997 and took on Men's 3s captain in his second year at the club and over the last 21 years have been involved directly in the running of the club in committee roles for 12 + years. Juddy has also undertake a wide range of volunteering roles over the last two decades from coaching in the academy, helping with the 200 club, club lend a hand events, car boots and his umpire contribution to umpiring too....'oh helloooo....' Congratulations to Juddy on a mini life times contribution to the section and club.

Vice Presidents are nominated by section for those that have held office or made a significant contribution to the running of the section for at least eight years.

It was also a pleasure to see Richard Knill from the hockey section be elected as an Honorary Life Member of TSC - Richard enters his 10th year on the Club Executive in the role of Treasurer. This is a huge role - TSC has a turnover of c£450,000 pa and Richard's role is responsible for the overall financial control of the Club so this too was a very well received appointment.

Finally, wondering why we're not doing a shout out for Car Boot Sale volunteers ?!

That all for this week - lets hope the Over 50's bring home some winners medals from Birmingham this weekend and not too many hangovers !
