Find out what the Turtles were up to in Timperley village this week and all the hockey news, dates and ways to get involved !

Local Mascots ~ Local Causes

It was great to see Tim and Perley getting in on the opening of the refitted Coop Food store in the Village on Friday - big thanks to the turtles minder for the day Nisha Sathi for keeping THC on the local map ! THC were invited to the opening as we're one of the Timperley Co-op's three local causes that means if Co-op Members select us as their local cause we get a cash donation towards out #GrowOurOwnVolunteers programme. Every penny raised helps and go towards the cost of training and support for our brilliant band of new and potential volunteers. We've invested over £500 in umpire training plus coaching courses and Young Leaders sessions with more planned over the next few months.

We're a #CoopLocalCause for another five months so do sign up, ask friends and family to sign up and help us reach our target of £2000 raised through the scheme.

New arrivals

Huge congratulations to our Men's Club Captain - Kieran Jeffery and Nat on the birth of the latest 'baby blue' last week with the arrival of Sorin Fred Jeffery weighting in at 8lbs 9oz - looking forward to seeing him at the 'cubs' session on Sunday morning in 2023 ! We send our best wishes to Kieran, Nat and their growing family. Kieran flows in the footsteps of his predecessor Alex Morley who also welcomed a new baby boy to his family whilst in post - and of course being new men they've both have a daughter to help grow the female side of the club too !

Overseas players - the women are still recruiting and looking at a number of potential applicants following the recent advert for new 1's players. We are just finalising the arrangements for our latest Men's 1 overseas visiting playing and are delighted with the addition to the squad. More news of our latest outfield recruit over the next few weeks !

Following Jamie's decision to stand down from coaching this season (but hopefully we'll see him playing at Timperley instead!) we're also finalising the recruitment of a new coach to join the team led by Albert. The new coach will be allocated to the Women's 2's on a Saturday and do Club coaching and Women's 2/3's coaching mid week. Nigel Stanhope will be picking up the Men's 2's on Saturdays and Men's 2/3's coaching on a Tuesday as Mark (Wors) isn't able to commit to Saturdays next season. mark (Wors) will be picking up Nigel's former Club Coach role.

We're looking to strengthen both Men's and Women's Performance Squads (1's) on the playing side so do help spread the work and connect us into any potential players who have the experience or current potential to compete at the highest level.

So more details on our new arrivals over the coming weeks.

Hockey, hockey and pre-season is almost here !

With our Summer Leagues up and running well steered each week by Cath Thomson, Will Tobin and Jackie Lord we've got a couple more tournaments coming up offering more hockey and important fund-raising opportunities too.

This Saturday, 9th June, we have the annual Ladies Vets 7's Tournament renowned for its fantastic fancy dress themed teams. Come down to the club, take in the hockey, the delights of the bar and catch the creativity of the team outfits ! Jo Nicholson has done another amazing job this year and has 16 teams signed up and ready to roll.

Next up is the Timperley Mixed 7's Tournament on Sunday 1st July 2018.
Sarah Chancellor is organising the day so have a look at the link to find out more details, how to enter a team and help spread the words to friends, other clubs to sign up.

We should be finalising general club fitness sessions shortly to run during the summer.

Ways to get involved ....

We hold our first hockey committee meeting of the new season on Monday 4th June and will be looking at the forward plan for the season. We've still all sorts of ways folks can get involved from big to the smallest jobs !

Here's a few areas you might like to think about helping out in for next season .....

- Team website administrator - title sounds boring but this is a great role for anyone who'd like to take on the website team area for their team. Pitchero is easy to use, you can load up photo's video's, match reports, results and stats and help bring the website to life at a team level - r if you'd like to help update, refresh and keep the website up to date

- team social leads ! - rather than have one or two social secretary's next season we're looking at a new approach of pairing up the men's and women's team to run a social event or evening each. So if there are a couple of people from each team who'd like to get involved let us know and we can get going with a social calendar for the season published nice and early !

- Academy coaching, team coaches and managers - we're always on the look out to get players from our higher teams or more experienced players to get involved with the next generation of #homegrown #localtalent. There are lots of ways to get involved and you don't need to commit to every Sunday either.

- Women's 1's Manager, we're also looking for a new manager as Ian has stood down after two season of being a super IWHL rules guru - a really key role and the opportunity to make a real contribution on the touch line to our next National League Campaign

If you're interested in any of the above roles, or any other roles contact Shelagh, Kieran, Cuey or any of the committee (Juddy, Malcolm, Nisha, Jackie or Caroline) or email timperleyhc@gmail.com

Masters Hockey News

We've had more Blues treading the turf in the spirit of masters hockey over the last couple of weeks. As well as Colin Taylot picking up a winners medal at the Over 55's Regional Tournament a few weeks back, Nigel Stanhope has now picked up a Runner's Up medal at the Over 50's Regionals. It was also great to see Mark Andrews selected for the North Over 45's and making his debut in fine style. The evergreen John Donnelly has also played North this year and the Women's masters also wrapped up a couple of weeks back with Jo Nicholson in action for the Over 45's.

...and finally...

Many people may have now heard that Chris Todd, stalwart of Cheshire and North Hockey, as well as England Hockey Vice President is currently in hospital and his family have asked not to release anymore details at this stage. Chris is a real gent, friend and champion of hockey at all levels and a frequent visitor to Stockport Road. At this difficult time for Chris and his family we have passed on our thoughts along with many from across the #hockeyfamily. Please join us in respecting the wishes of his family at this time. Get well soon Chris.
