Club Umpire Developers: Nick Burnett and Malcolm Tucker

Our Umpire Co-ordinators are responsible for organising Umpires for all senior and junior league and cup games unless appointed by the appropriate NW Officiating or NPUA. We made over 350 club umpiring appointments per season and thank all our umpire volunteers who help make this happen. Woody and Andy work with all our club umpires, Nick and Malcom our umpire developers to support you in those few tentative games to growing umpire games at the level you feel comfortable doing.

For all new umpires, or those wishing to progress to a higher level, or just needing a bit of feedback and a tune up , Nick and Malcolm are there to support and work with you.

We have umpiring opportunities for all from:

- junior mini games through to Badgers, Beavers and otters and Junior league and cup games
- adult league games for all levels of umpires

- summer league 7's and tournaments, ideal opportunities to start your umpire journey or keep your 'whistle' in

- links to NW hockey development pathways and opportunities for umpire development and coaching including at tournaments hosted at THC

- our whistlers include our newbies just starting out, through to our club umpires (l1 assessed and unassessed ) through our level 2 umpires who support everyone so much when pairing you and we're so proud of Dave Halkyard whose now a level 3 umpiring National League

- our young umpires are part of the NW Young Umpire pathways and have opportunities for coaching and development and the opportunity to be selected for Area and National tournaments

Here's what to do now if you'd like to start, restart or continue developing as an Umpire

Contact one of the team: Andy, Woody, Nick or Malcolm and sign up to join the THC 'Whistlers'

They've get you on our system and tailor what you need to do including:

  • Tkaing the on line EH Online Rules Test and sign up for one of the 'free' introductory and level 1 online umpiring courses

    • Register on the GMS as an umpire - so that you're insured and can be added to match sheets

    • Work with Nick B so he can come along to coach you and feedback after games and agree a plan to work towards assessment if that's what you would like to do . Nick's also an assessor so when he thinks you're ready he'll agree an assessment game for you at the right level

    • Download your certificates and send to Nick along with your umpire number

    We are also so proud that all our club umpires volunteer their time to make hockey happen each week. We like to say a little thank you after each game and offer a voucher for a drink on us and a hockey tea ! When you pass your assessment we will also present your with your first umpire shirt!

    You'll also get a head set so you can radio up for all games using the clubs radio sets that we use for all levels of game and really bring working with your umpire colleague to life and bring the support and teamwork side of umpiring to life.
