Catch up with this weeks THC news, find out what our young leaders have been up to and all the hockey news !

This weekend we take time to reflect and remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country as part of Remembrance Commemorations. We will be holding a Minutes Silence before all home games and before junior training on Sunday. We remember the ultimate sacrifice of so many across all wars and the value of peace. We've also shared a little bit of Club history this year to make the connection of this poignant weekend with our club, hockey and some of the hockey players who never made it back from WWI to play again. Have a read of
Timperley Remembers ... and take a moment to pass by our own small club WWI memorial plaque in the function room.

New outfits for our regular Whistlers!
We hope players have noticed how dapper some of our regular whistlers were looking last weekend sporting their new England /North West Hockey Green (or orange) Umpiring shirts. This is a small thank you on behalf of the club and all players to those who have racked up their umpiring appearances for THC to make hockey happen week in week out. We're hoping more of our occasional, and new umpires, will keep putting themselves forward to 'whistle' and in turn earn their own gifted Umpires Shirt too! All our Club Umpires whistle for for free and generously give them time (and patience) ensure we can get all our home games on and umpired. If you're an occasional umpire and still enjoy playing please do pop you're name down for a few games on the weekly shout out on the Whistlers What's App Group and help share out the appointments.

Young Leaders - starting their whistling journey !
One of our real hidden 'gems' is our Young Leader Programme that Helen Judd has led on delivering over the past few years. The Young Leaders learn and gain practical experience of all the key areas needed to make hockey happen from coaching, running tournaments to umpire. We're proud to hopefully be developing the next generation of #hockeymakers and hopefully our YL's will retain a life long love of the sport and importantly to giving something back to the sport they love.

As many of you will know we have been working hard to develop it’s pool of umpires over recent seasons. Last Sunday was another first with a group of our Young Leaders volunteering to engage in an introductory classroom session on umpiring with the aim of increasing their own knowledge of the rules of the game and possibly taking their first step towards having a go at officiating out on the pitch. Thanks to Andrew 'Fozzy' Foster one of our Umpire Developers for running the session and supporting the development of our Young Whistlers.

There was a lively discussion for an hour and a half covering a wide variety of aspects of game management which included:
- The primary purpose of umpiring
- Positioning in both open play and at set pieces
- Clarifying the groups own experiences in an open Q&A about actual game situations that they did not fully understand
- Umpiring the aerial ball

Fozzy encouraged our YL's to sign up on the England Hockey - Hockey Hub and do the Online Hockey Rules Test as a first step towards becoming a qualified umpire and test their knowledge of the game and help improve them as players and in gaining a better appreciation of decisions being made - even if they don't progress to being a qualified Umpire.
It’s great to see our next generation of leaders and who knows, umpires, being willing to volunteer and support the development of hockey at Timperley.

...and that's not all ! As we know we have many many players who have 'expert' knowledge of the Rules of Hockey and Umpiring based on the dissection and analysis of umpiring decisions each week ! Plus we've lots of players who aren't are familiar with the Rules but don't like to ask ! So why not take the THC HOCKEY RULES CHALLENGE this weekend and see how you do ! Its free and anyone can take have a go just follow the link - and let us know how you do !

Finally, this week we'd like your help and pass on details of the current Bar Duty Manager Vacancy to anyone you know who maybe interested in this role on a full or part time basis. Follow the link for full details. James will be leaving us shortly for his next adventure so we look forward to welcoming a new member to the team to join Jane and George.
