Speed gates, 'Franks' on the streets of Timperley, a fund-raising record, a new masters team & your chance to help shape the club !

The league season may be more than three months away but it's been back to back hockey over the last 7 days - this really shows how important it is that hockey get involved in the future development of the club so we have the facilities to match all the activities we are running.

As well as two more bumper nights of summer league last week we also held a new session for the Men's and Women's Performance Squads to undertake a series of fitness tests as the first phase of base-lining player fitness and developing individual and squad programmes for the coming season. We're working with a team from Chester University who are bringing the expertise in to develop this aspect of the Performance Squads and thanks to all the players who made it down and whipped through the speed gates and other tests. More will follow and the first follow up session for the Performance Squads starts on Monday 11th September. This is all part of getting the squads in the best possible shape for the coming season and for its duration.

Caroline Small will be confirming the date for the 'open' general fitness sessions hopefully this week.

Congratulations to the Ladies over 30's - a new team - that have entered the new England Hockey Masters Summer Championships. The girls got off to a convincing 6 - 0 away win at Neston today and progress to the next round. It was great to see the mix of players and to see some of the new generation of #hockeymums back in a blue shirt too. Hoping to see them back in action a bit more next season !

Ladies Vet's 7's

On Saturday we hosted 17 teams and over 200 people involved at our annual vets 7's organised by Jo Nicholson - we have fantastic weather and our biggest ever turnout - renowned for the creativity of the annual fancy dress themes, this years them of 'where you come from' didn't disappoint ! The two Timperley Teams went as 'The Frank's' paying homage to Timperley's own Frank Sidebottom and the second team went as the 'Honee Bees'. Although a fantastic social hockey day the standard of play continues to improve year on year an the overall winners were Oldham.

A huge thank to Woody as she not only ran another superbly organised tournament but raised over £900 toward the costs of running the section - this is a record and a fantastic kick start to add towards the 2018-19 fund-raising target. With over £7,000 due in various affiliations and entry fees in the autumn its key we have funds to meet these costs. Thanks also to Woody's 'wing woman' on the day Leonnie Molloy working on the Tournament table and keeping us to time - and Angela George for her help with the pre-tournament preparation. We'll be loading photos up from the tournament over the next week onto the website.

Get involved in shaping the club's development

As a club we've a great track record of making stuff happen - that's why we have two astro's and a large clubhouse and bar- we've only got this as members have made it happen. Had the ideas, inspiration, motivation and determination to make stuff happen plus for the last 25 years + we've run the club in a way to build up the funds to make these developments happen.

We're at a really exciting stage of the next phase developing the CLub and its a really important period for hockey as it involves the next refurbishment of our pitches, as well as the clubhouse development and the overall site, parking, access etc.

We're running small informal work groups on 7 topics over the summer and are looking for hockey members, parents, umpires, coaches to get involved if you have the skills to feed in on the technical or know how side, experience in the topic areas professionally or from being involved in other clubs or organisations or just a passion and commitment to want to help improve our club.

Take a quick look at the topic areas (including pitches ) and how to opt in via the Doodle Poll - we want to get a range of hockey people involved to help shape the future so please get involved if you can - its a couple of sessions between now and end of August. Please sign up by 16th June 2018

We're recruiting !

Due to some technical issues at EH our advert of Women's 1 squad players has only just gone live on the England Hockey vacancies site. Details are now up on the website - so if you do know of players with experience of National League hockey - or with the calibre to play at that level please forward them details and send the link. New Coach

We're delighted to announce that Mark Talbot is joining our coaching team and will be our Ladies 2 / 3's coach and Ladies Club coach. Mark is completing a Masters at the University of Chester in Sports Science and has been the University coach and works with Wales U16/18 Girls and previously coached at Chester HC. Mark's background and expertise in sports science will add to what we offer and he's already worked with us to set up the Performance Squad fitness and strength and conditioning sessions. Mark has even managed a run out for us at Summer League last week and hopes to play on a Saturday working around his role as Ladies 2's match day coach. Mark will be getting involved over the summer and working as part of the team with Nigel, Mark (Worsley), Savs and Albert.
