Time to Step up with new Social Distance procedures, O35s do us proud, the Cubs are back, section grows (again!) and a 'diamond' tale!

In another week of restrictions and daily Covid cases on the increase we start and end with an uplifting story!

Over 35's do Club Proud at National Finals
Our socially distanced Ladies O35's did themselves, the club and hockey proud last Sunday at the England Hockey Masters National Finals. The squad led by 1st teamer, Leonnie Molloy, was made up of players from across the club, all levels, abilities, long standing member, newer members and those that came through the 'Back to Hockey Route'.

The quality of the final v Bedford O35 wasn't to be the result we wanted going down 1-3 but the spirit of the squad and quality of hockey was excellent and recognised by EH and on social media a credit to both squads. For many players this was their first National Final and we're not sure some have taken their medals off yet! The game was played at pace, and bar a match winning performance from the Bedford Keeper would have been a different result. Sarah Chancellor opened the scoring with a well worked PC and a barrage of on target shots were saved by the Bedford Keeper. Congratulations to all involved and roll on the 2020-21 competition and making it third time lucky for the O35s at National Finals.

(Reminder to all teams - follow the lead of the O35 with your socially distanced team photos!)

Stepping up our Social Distancing, Step 5 and remember the 'Y'
This is the week to Step Up on all fronts to help do your bit and our bit to contain the spread of Covid-19 - thats 'Why' we have all the restrictions in place. If you think it doesn't matter and wont make a difference - think again - it does. With more restrictions coming in daily we need to all Step Up and socially distance.

We've done really well with all on pitch activity but from this weekend we need everyone who comes to the Club (Covid symptom free and not in a household awaiting tests or isolating) - players, spectators, parents - to follow the updated TSC Social Distancing Procedures when off the pitch .... waiting for games, post games, waitng for kids, spectating, around the club and at the bar. DO READ THEM .... if people do not follow the procudures they will be asked to leave the site, and ultimately we will have to stop games / training if spectators and or players dont step up - follow the Rule of 6 and social distance. 2m or 1m+ (if wearing a face covering) and groups of up to 6, no mixing and well spaced out (3m apart to show you are separate groups.

Our growing Covid Support team / new hockey Marshalls will be signing in spectators to the pitches and doing the team registers. Please help them by following the Rules when off the pitch and the Club Marshalls and Bar Staff - show respetc and support rather than personal views on what you think abut Covid and whats right / wrong with the Government - this is time to JDI !

Hockey at Timperley is growing !
At such a challenging time for life, home, work and sport its been great to hear such positive feedback from other clubs and players about what we are doing at THC to 'great hockey on' - and for all when many clubs are struggling with pitches or in offering a full programme. We've been offering hockey since 30th May and we're really proud we've done this on a #OneClub basis - and we know from feedback how much this has meant to player. ....... (quick reminder here to Pay your annual membership subs NOW!

We announced this week that we were setting up a
New Ladies 6th team due to the increase in player numbers and entering Cheshire Women's Hockey League (Div 6) , we have 7 mens teams out today in friendlies (and who'd have thought that a year ago) and nearly 200 Under 18's signed up and we're getting near to pitch / group size capacity for the Academy.

The Cubs (reception to Year 2) are back this week with a new time 11:20 - 12:20 - no rock up's every player must be pre registered and invited to attend via Pitchero - Academy Sign Up Information and Links

All fantastic news for us as a club - BUT also highlights with all the normal requirements for volunteers PLUS Covid roles we need everyone to give a little back to keep hockey on and thriving. Please have a think about why hockey is growing and happening and do you bit so we can keep it that way.

Finally, a uplifting note to end on this week that just shows having faith and never giving up is good guide for life! Ladies player, Jen Brennan, put in a mercy call after training last week to say she'd worn her engagement ring for training (by accident...wont be doing this again!) and the main diamond was lost. A quick search of the Green Pitch bore nothing and Jen was as you'd expect devastated (and thinking how to explain to her hubby!). When brushing the Green Pitch last Friday Andy Horsfield our Groundsman asked if Jen would like the debris saved to have a look though...long shot but "if she wants to have a look I'll put the leaves and clippings in a bag for her" ..... Jen's and Husband duly came down on Tuesday searched through the bag with a touch and found one big sparkly diamond. Jen is delighted and thanks to Andy's 'worth a try' thinking she's reunited with her gorgeous fully intact engagement ring!

Enjoy your hockey this weekend - stay safe - socially distance and fingers crossed and Covid levels in Trafford (and Nationally) contained we'll be playing again next week!
